Hello,Boys.

Any of you all play with this cartridge?

I recieved a Ruger Super Redhawk in 480 for my birthday back in May.

I find factory loads insane for plinkin' around with. It's a real hand buster.

I have about a 100 or so cast 420 gr.boolits.I want to load em down.I was thinking about using H110.I got a 8 pounder from an estate sale.

Morning POLETAX  >>  Ya don't drastically download rounds using H110.  That powder tends to have real inconsistent ignition issues when downloaded, creating potentially hazzardous conditions.  General rule is reducing MAX published loads by 3% only.  If that's still to heavy kicking for ya, I'd look at changing powders for a softer plinking load.  Or bullet.  There is a 325 gr. XTP for the .480 Ruger.  Hodgdon lists 22.5 grs. of Lil'Gun as a light starting load that should be comfortable.  1400 fps or so.  If ya need something lighter, they also list 13.0 grs. of Longshot as a starting load getting 1217 fps.  That should really be a pup load.  Just don't download H110 past 3% for your own safety.  H110's a workhorse of a powder.  Designed for the best top end performance in a lot of heavy hitting handgun rounds.  Lightloading with it isn't it's strongsuit.  Later.  >>  klallen

klallen,thanks for the reply.

Yippers,I know all about downloading H-110.A fellow shooter had a pressure problem at the range.

I was thinking around 19-20 grains. This fills the case fairly well with a 400 grainer pushed down on it.
