Well after long and hard thought and advice from you fellas and the
fellas at the HB i made my choice and bought my pistol.I bought a
slightly used Sig P229 in 40 Smith and Wesson.I paid 458 bucks for
it.The finish is still immaculate and it functions smooth.Did I do ok
on that price?
It sure as hell feels better in my hand than that Smith and Wesson Sigma or the Ruger p89.0It cost me a lot more but I have been assured I will like the reliability and accuracy of it. I bought me a bunch of 170 gr FMJ Fiochi ammo to play with and get used to the gun. I also bought me a box of CORBON 165gr JHP`s to load the magazine with for bedroom duty. What do you fellas think?Did I do ok on this pistol?I am gonna shoot it afterwhile and see what I think.I thought and thought on this after looking at literally a hundred different pistols and this one just seemed to fit my hand the right way.. ![]() |

for price... i paid $600 for my 229 in 40. yeah, you done good. to make it feel even betterer (tech term) in your hand, get a hogue rubber grip for it. the 226 and 229 feel almost perfect in my hand... put a hogue on, and you will never look back. it is a helluva lot more gun than the ruger and especially the sigma, so you done real good. i have yet to have a single jam in mine, and i can get consistent groups of 2" at 25 yards all day every day - which is phenomenal for a combat handgun w/ open sights, especially when you consider target tuned 1911's shoot 1" at 25 yards... enjoy your gun - it is a good one. oh, get yourself a pound of power pistol and some 150-155 grain bullets and have a ball. |

Hey Dakota. It already has Hogue grips on it.Evidently its first owner knew the same thing you did.
![]() I will do on that powder.I am gonna order dies this week for it and will take your word and get some 150 grain bullets too. Its a nice shooter,I sped shot it and couldn`t be more impressed with its grouping. It`ll definately get rid of an unwanted visitor and do it in a hurry... ![]() I`ll let ya know more on it when I start loading some cartridges for it with the 150`s.. Now if that long box in hiding is a 45-70,Im in business ![]() Gene |

mec-gar is the best aftermarket mags for sig... but due to world situation at the present, they are tough to come by (o.e.m. supplier to sig). best source: sportsman's warehouse pistol-gear used to have absolutely the best prices and had good mags. he has since switched over to xd stuff, but he may still have some left. i picked up some pro-mag for mine... pretty rough around the edges, but eventually worked out well enough. |

Timber, I hope you know this about SIG's. From this moment on, you will judge all other handguns based on your SIG. They are very dreamy in the shooting and reliability department. I've had my P-226 for 12 years. It's never let me down, but then again I service it regularly and replace ANY part that I am not comfortable with. You should have no trouble with yours for around 6000 rounds. If you do need parts for it, let me know. I am connected with SIG through work and can get about anything for any of their pistols, rifles, and shotguns. Congrats on buying the finest pistol made today..................Kingpin

Good choice Timber. I'd go for a SIG any day over the S&W Stigma or Buger P89. Got a holster yet for carrying it around while hunting? I know you got it as a bedside gun, but I bet you end up carrying it sometimes.
Congrats on getting into the handgun game.

TG, whether you realize it or not, P-226 mags will fit it and function well, if you don't mind them sticking out of the mag well................Kingpin

Timber; Try CDNN for mags. Good choice, good pistol, good price. If the SIGS had better left-friendly ergonomics, I might have one. As it is, the SIGS & H&K's are at the top of the heap IMHO. Loads: 180 grain bullets at 980 fps were the FBI standard for the caliber. And really, the FBI more-or-less invented the .40S&W. To get a nice load that will produce 180/980 try 8.7 grains of Blue Dot. I use Winchester cases, CCI primers & anybody's copper-washed lead. 900F |

Hey,thanks guys for the loads,links and info.I appreciate it.I had a
hard time finding a pistol but in the end,I listened to you
fellas about the goods and bads.Dakota got me to thinking,Why not just
pay a little more and insure you get a quality weapon instead of
something that is not as desirable in reliability, function and accuracy.
![]() GR,I bought me one of those holsters that you can clip on your belt.I threw the box away but I think it was a Uncle Mikes or something like that.Black synthetic holster. You are right,I`ll prolly end up carrying it with me to deer and hog hunt.I didn`t see any shoulder rigs at Academy for it yesterday.Im gonna go finish the last tidbits of present shopping for the kids and a few friends today and I will be looking for one. Jon,I appreciate the offer for help on it if I need it.Everything seems to be fine.I didn`t get an owners manual for it.You know where I can pick one up?Id like a schematic too if I can find one. Also I looked at a barrel in Midway for my model chambered for 357SIG.Can I simply just interchange barrels?????The barrel was 179 dollars but that would be cool as hell to be able to have two different barrels for the same frame.. ![]() I`m gettin antsy fellas,There is a big ole box under the tree and I can swear I see the words 45-70 through the Christmas wrapping... ![]() ![]() |

My dealer price is $19.50 for a factory 10 rd. mag. This should help you decide what kind of mark-up you are comfortable paying. DD |
