How is the best way to determine what bullet weight will be the best with a specific twist rate?

I have always considered myself to be quite the bullshitter, But ocasionally it is nice to sit back and listen to a true professional......So, Carry on.

Most bullet places will tell you the best or minimum twist. It's more of a length thing.

There are a number of equations for stability.

Thanks guys.
That brings up more questions. Do you achieve the best accuracy with a twist rate that just barely stabilizes your bullet or one that over spins it?

Too much, too little, not good. underspin is better than over spin in my opinion

I'll keep that in mind next time I have a rifle re-barreled. I have been thinking about it a lot lately.

Most barrel makers have a std twist per cartridge, but let you go faster for slower heavy bullets or faster twist for fast light bullets.

That's how I understand it too Bear.
When my gunsmith ordered the barrel for my Swede he, for some reason, wanted a 1 in 8.5 twist rate. The standard is 1 in 8. It took longer to get the barrel but he was able to get what he wanted from Brux Barrels. |

I think the 1:8.5 is a good twist for the 123 gr bullets. Especially if you are shooting hotter loads.
My 6.5-08 has 1:8, which is std compromise barrel.

We got the GDs barrel in 1x7 from Shaw. If the throat is long enough we could run very long bullets. With the new bullet construction, I don't think you can over-spin a bullet.

My hunting load for the Sweed uses 130 grain bullets. I have loaded 140 and 142 grain bullets with equally good results.
