I don't remember if I told you I got a bunch of reloading stuff from one of our members. He got it at an estate sale when one of his longtime friends passed. Anyway, he made me a drop-dead deal. ( sorry no pun intended) 12 pounds of assorted powders, 50 new 375 H&H brass, I use it in my 8mm RM. Plus 140 loaded 257 WB shells. AND his homegrown Onions, and a Pie Pumpkin, what a guy... I'm taking them apart we can't trust anyone's handloads. So far I have 60 finished, and good thing too I have been weighing the powder and bullets. It ranges from a little over 55 gr to a bit over 70 grains of RL 25, the bullets, some are Barnes copper and some are Hornady ranging from 115 to 125 ish gr. the kicker is there all mixed in the boxes. That's just in the first 60. Dang is it boring, I'm using a hammer-type puller. Yuk

I have a red brick on my loading bench, just for hammer pulling.
Work, but at least in your case, it wasn't needed because of your mistake. Hope those 257 loads are not crimped!!!

No crimp but I can tell the Barnes, there a LOT harder to pull. The Hornaday come out with one firm hit the Barnes take 3 or more. The brass are well over $2 a piece new. The D-I-L has a 257 WB.

Yea, the Barnes are much softer, so the bullet takes a set on the neck. Jacketeds are much harder and don't distort under bullet seating.
Out of 140 you should get a usable amount of bullets. Are you "tossing" the powder?

![]() ![]() I think I will save it, it is all the same, it will work for fire forming at a very reduced load and so will the buggered-up bullets. I don't think all the brass is savable some have 90* shoulders, aka crushed down. Now this was loaded and back into the box ready to shoot. Some have fired primers, as in not replaced. Good thing I always pull apart other peoples loads.

Wow.
I don't always weigh every powder charge but I'm real sure my powder measure is more accurate than that. I weigh every 5-10 and they are almost always within 2 tenths of a grain. Usually right on. Yeah, It's a good thing you are taking them apart.

Dale, with that many to do a collet puller may be worth picking up. Way easier than a hammer.

It is not THAT bad just boring.
All said and done I ended up with 175 Primed brass, a pound and a part of usable power, and about a half pound of grass food. The bullets may be salvaged, but they will work fine to fire form any 25 cal. brass wild cat
