Only good thing about having your hunting/shooting buds get old and pass, is that you might inherit some good guns.

As I've mention before, I inherited a 22 Hornet Winchester model 43 (1949) with a K-6 el paso Weaver scope.

Cleaned it up and did trigger work, was 14 # trigger pull. got it down to 4#. but needs to be 2.5# or less

Now after 3 range trips and about 60 rounds, I've got it sighted in.

strange thing it seems to shoot two or three holes into 1/2 " at 100, then throws a flyer about 3-4 inches high. and that pattern seems to repeat.

I've talked to 3 other people that have had a 22 hornet and they laugh and say theirs did the same, no reason why. These 3 other shooters had win 43, ruger 77, and savage 340.

what is it about the hornet??????????????????????

Is it an inherently flier maker?

all thoughts welcome.

Sounds like a nice rifle.

I had the same trouble with me .223 truck gun a while back. I had a long discussion about it with Deaddog. He told me about a method of working up loads that brought the flyer into the group. I can't remember the details but it worked. I used the same method on another rifle and it totally took the flyer out of the group.

Maybe we could get him to weigh in and explain the method. I would be surprised if it didn't help your groups.
I have always considered myself to be quite the bullshitter, But ocasionally it is nice to sit back and listen to a true professional......So, Carry on.
