Cheifs Special.I had it all wrong. But I went ahead and traded ,I thought it was a good trade for a muzzle loader> Don't know why it looks so spotty it don't look like that,HMM  Would like it better if it had the right grips though.

You did good.  That gun is worth $300-400, if not 450.  They don't make them anymore, I don't think.  They were replaced by the m60, which are now over $500.  I just sold a used one for $400, to a gun store, that was about 2 years old.  I sold it for about $40 more than I paid for it.

Do the grips fit you?  I'll bet the smooth wood comes out of your back pocket pretty slick!

I've got one of the 5 shooter 642-1 with the smooth skeleton grips that slips in and out of my vest pocket real nice!  I guess I do have a little advantage though as it's DAO with no exposed hammer.

the "spotty" could be cuz someone used Hoppe's #9 on it..........not good for nickel finishes.....I thought the Chief's Spl was a M36 only with the short bbl & renamed to compete with Colts Detective Spl.....When the gun came out Smith had a contest to name the "new" short bbl revolver at a police chiefs convention and they came up with the name Chiefs Spl.  My M36 is blue and wears pachmyar rd butt type rubber grips.....

Ibd.  The colt is a little larger than the 36, and it has 6 shots, which Colt loved to brag about in competing for sales with the j-frame S&W.

Also it is "wrong handed" as CB would say.  the cylinder rotates backwards from the S&W.  Wink

It is bulker to varry, but is IMO much easier to shoot with a longer grip.  My brother has an alloy frame model and it IS the most accurate snub nose I've shot ( I own 3 smiths and a Charter arm snubbie).

I'd buy a alloy frame CDS tomorrow.  Great guns

Hey guys thanks for all the info. No the grips don't fit me at all,I really won't shoot it no more unless I have to,as after 3 shots the trigger guard which rest's directly on my middle finger knocks the snot out of it. Fits my wife really well.
