fisching is good in central montana for trout. brook, brown, rainbow and cutthroat trout all thrive here.

a lot of guys come from all over to flyfish here. as for myself, i never got good with the "basic" cast in flyfishing, although i did get good at sitting on the bank, letting a fly drift, then flicking it back up stream, letting it drift, etc....caught more than a few nice fish that way.

mostly, i use spinners, also, i drift worms and grasshoppers, and also try spoons and other lures. this produces great results.

all of the above is in reference to creek fishing. at the lake i mostly still fish.

Surely you've seen the movie A River Runs Through It. Everybody and their brother was a flyfisherman after that movie. I used to enjoy it quite a bit but I haven't picked up my fly rod in years. I much prefer streams using a 1/4 ounce Thomas Cyclone spoon 99% of the time, the gold color. The creeks I like to fish are overgrown and most of the good holes aren't accessable for a flyrod. This makes for some good fishing and I seldom encounter another angler. This makes for a good day.

Thought that movie was from Montana but couldn't remember.  I love chasin pan sized native trout way back away from everyone.  Brookies are little animals - they don't just hit it once and let her go, they follow them bug's and pop at them continuosly.  Ain't nothin as tasty as a trout, little bit of salt and your all set, if you got tinfoil you can put them in the fire, with a bit of salt inside them.

Still thinkin about where I'm gonna end up some day - thanks guy's, I ain't never been to Montana.  Don't (well maybe I do now) know anyone up there.
