Picked up a "belly bucker" today at the gunshow. A Kel-Tec          ;    P-3AT .380 My distributors have been sold out of these things for months so I broke down and amost paid retail $214. They say this gun kicks pretty hard cause it's so small. I just wanted something that I'd be more likely to carry than my 36 S&W.

i've been looking at that exact pistol for awhile. it is awfully light and small - the grip doesn't fit me at all, which i guess you kind of expect w/ a gun of that size. however, because of its unobtrusive size and weight, i'm sure it will be carried non-stop.

might look at using the clip instead of a holster for it - even less bulk that way.

i would like to hear your thoughts on it after you get a few downrange...

I am going to try it in a front pocket carry with no clip or holster to begin with. They also make a front inside the pocket holster. It is not a gun for someone with large hands. I get 1 3/4 fingers on it under the trigger guard, that's not much to hold on to.

yeah, i doubt the thing is a laugh-riot to shoot, but a couple shots every week or so to stay proficient shouldn't be too hard to handle.

local gunshop has had the same one sitting there for over a year - he can't move it... every time i go there, i just have to look at it. i suppose i should just buy the damned thing - i've looked at it enough, i might as well. i think it would make a great complement to my j-frame s&w.

i tried pocket carry once w/ no holster. didn't care for it. felt like it printed too much, and gun would shift a little. now, when i buy a handgun, i just factor in the price of a holster w/ the gun, and get them at the same time. but that clip for the kel tec... now that might work very well for me...

when are ya goin' shootin'?

Mrs Trigger carries the P-32...never thought of a .32 ACP having recoil until I shot that one! Her carry mode is pocket carry, using an Uncle Mikes IWB holster with the nylon clip removed. It stabilizes the pistol, is cheap, and it works.

Dog,

I looked at the 3-AT, sort of nice.  I carry the S&W 442 and a 32 Auto Colt Pocket Pistol (heavy but sweet).

Now I have ultra thin leather inside-pants holsters for all my CC guns.  but the 3-At doesn't have a safety.  I just always think of a safety on an auto.  My Pocket Pistol has two safeties.  If the 3-At had a nice backstrap safety, it would probably be in my pocket!  Sitting in an event with the barrel pointed at one of my two most favorite organs, without a safety, would be a distraction????????   thoughts

Any thoughts

My situation is that I hardly if ever carry on my person but like to have "one" in my truck. It is illegal in my state to have a loaded gun in your vehicle unless it is on or around a person with a CWP. So if you leave the gun in your car it has to be unloaded. My plan which I know will bring boo's and hisses from the gallery is to carry it in my pocket without one in the tube. I am able to rack the slide in tenths of seconds making it not much slower than carefully pulling a fully loaded one out of my pocket in such a way as to not put a hole in "Golliath" or his two friends. This condition will facilitate just dropping the mag and casing the gun when I leave it in the truck. This has been the sticking point of carrying a revolver, the loading/unloading everytime you leave the vehicle. I just have a feeling that because of the small size and wt. of this .380  I'll have it on me more. If I start carrying it one way I'll just stick with it. I don't want to second guess myself as to if it's in battery or not.

Fella's;

I'm so glad I live in an enlightend gun state.  I just put my carry gun on in the morning & leave it on all day long.  As long as I don't go into a bar with it, or do something really stupid, it's all good here in Montana.

Dog,

Great practice.  To a skilled shooter familiar with the piece, I agree with the quick rack.  I've done that on some of my CC auto guns.  And your right that clip dropping is the way to unload in  a vehicle. For your intended use the 3-at lack of a safety is an ADVANTAGE.

I don't worry about "Goliath" but David is a concern.  My j-frame 442 is hammerless and I've taken it to the range and fired it thru an old coat (inside the pocket).  The lack of a hammer is good for pocket carry, nothing to snag.  It took some practice to tell my thumb not to try and cock the wheel gun!

Good luck with it, give us a range report.....I might need one.

I don't get home until the 21st so you and I will have to wait for a range report.

Anybody have a decent .380 practice load? I have never liked loading this cal very much. I think it has to do with the other gunI have in .380, a Mauser HSC. It jams if you look at it wrong and is as accurate as I am when I throw stones at 15 yards. If I recall I was loading 3gr Bullseye with 90-95 gr lead bullets. Most likely I'll be using Federal Hydra Shoks for carry.

North Logan: I've got guns similar to those but they still would make a very nice X-mas preasant.
