I was poking around a local pawn shop yesterday.  They had a Ruger GP100 - blued, black factory grips with inlays, of course .357 Mag. and 6" barrel.  Very tight action, no noticable wear anywhere on it.  Not even any muzzle blast wear.  They were asking $329.00.  Gunbroker.com has em for $379+.

What do you all think?

i think i would pass on it - but i am no fan of ruger, really, and especially the gp... if you like the gun and platform, offer $300 in cash and take it... since it is used, you know the shop will still turn a tidy profit on it at $300...
Hunting is not a matter of life or death; it is much more important than that.

The GP100 is a strong reasonably priced revolver.  It is my standard recommendation for a bedstand gun, in a 4 inch barrel.  $300 is an OK price.

It depends upon your proposed use for the weapon.  As a bed stand gun or a car carry piece it is very good.  I think it is too heavy for CC.  For hunting and semi-serious target I prefer the S&W.

If you have never owned or shot a 357 (also takes 38 cheap reloads) the Ruger is a good inexpensive way to get some fun shooting.  I've never seen a GP broken, but I'm sure Ruger would repair free (unless abused).

I personally prefer the older Security Six to the GP . They just semeed better balanced. I agree with 4" barrel comment for versatility, and smith for target work. They just hold up longer

They are a good pistol. My old combat pistol coach, retired FBI instructor, carries one all the time.
