For the past year I've been haunting the local gunshops for a quality used .32 or .380 pocket automatic. I've passed on the PPk and clones because the always seem to be out of my budget. Back in the '70's I had a fair to middl'in collection, Savages.Sauers,MAB's and on and on. I disposed of them the year I had two kid's in college. No regrets. Today I found a .32 Mauser, 1934. Quality and condition were there. 85-90% with an extra magazine. 175.00 OTD. My question is did pay too much ann has anyone outthere owned one. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.........Thank's Essex County

Seems like pocket pistol proces have escalated a bunch in the last ten years. I remember seeing Savage pistols for $125 to $150, now when you can find one they run $200 and up. Sounds like a decent price for a Mauser in that kind of condition.

Essex; If that was a Mauser pocket model, you done good. If it was the HSc, you stole it. However, if your dates are accurate, it shouldn't be an HSc. 900F |

You did good with the Mauser. Have you looked at the Makarov's?

I have both the 32 and 380 Kel-Tec pistols. Both wear a clip and weight is 6.3 and 7.2 oz unloaded. Price for either NIB is about 250.00 w/used going about 200.00/32 and 225.00/380.00. Both are great carry guns. My son likes to shoot the plates with his 380 Kel-Tec (3AT). He does OK out to about 15 yards. You just have to be sure to hit the plate right at the top. It's good practice. I had a PA-63 in 9mm Makarov and got rid of it. It was accurate, the price was right (119.00), and a clone of the Walther, but the power level was too much for me. It really hurt my hand (I have arthritis) worse than a 320 gr bear load in my 4" 44 mag. I also have a Makarov, and it is a really nice gun. The wider grip seems to soften the blow, but it really is a useless gun to me. Too big and heavy for a carry gun (see the 380 Kel-Tec), and too small for a duty weapon. For the size of the Makarov, Walther or PA-63 you can have a better caliber, and probably smaller gun (Taurus Millenium PT-145 10+1 45 ACP 23 oz empty). But that's just me. |
