I liked seeing NLs Colt 1911 and 22lr conversion.  It got me to thinking again about getting a slide/barrel unit for my Beretta 92F.   Ciener is supposed to make good units.  Beretta makes one with an adjustable rear sight.   There might be another maker too, but I can't remember right now.

I've had a 22lr Colt conversion unit for my CAR-15 for years, but haven't used it all that much.   But that's because the barrel isn't interchangable.  I just don't want to sent a lot of lead down past the gas port, in the hopes of not blocking it off.   Or depositing lead in the 223 chamber.  (It kind of spits out and back from where the 22lr conversion mouth meets the 223 throat?)   It isn't that accurate for me either.  I've tried a lot of different brands, and it's good enough for squirrel or rabbit hunting out to 20 yards.  Not good for much beyond that.  This carbine has had a lot of 223 through it, so maybe that's part of the 22lr accuracy problem.  The 10 round magazine always feeds reliably, and the bolt/carrier unit usually functions just fine.

On the other hand,  the handgun conversion units have their own slide and barrel, as well as magazine.   I wonder what kind of accuracy can be expected in the various units that are offered.  And do they cycle with no problems.   I realize that these units are set up to function with rimfire ammo, but some makers are probably better than others.

Does anyone have any for their different semi-autos?  Besides NL.     And NL, what kind of accuracy have you had with yours?   If you haven't gone out and shot it for a while now's a good time.

What brand and type ammo did anyone use to get it going good?

I haven't gone back in the archives here, so this may have already come up.    Maybe I'll become the guinea pig here and try one.

I've got a Kimber .22 converson for a 1911. It shoots very well with premium ammo and not very good at all with the cheap stuff. I'd shoot it a bunch more if it did. It functions fine with both but it goes from 2 1/2" with Eleys to 4 1/2-5" at 25 yds. with Blazers. I've had Colt and Ciener conversions for the 1911 in the past but they jammed all the time. My buddy has a Ciener for his AR and that works well like yours. I see that another company makes an upper made just for .22 LR's might be an option for you.

Endeavor to persevere.

I have both a Ciener (mounted on a Fed Ord frame that I built myself) and a Colt Service Ace (mounted on an Argentine M1927.)

The Ciener is a plinker, the Colt is a superb shooter.  Look for them on Gunsamerica.com, and you can occasionally find one reasonably priced.

My wife got me a Cliner unit w/extra mag for Christmas several years ago. I put it on my M1927 Argentine and loved it. Extreamly accurate. I ended up buying a semi-custom bottom end for it and now leave it as a 22 to practice with.

Gunrunner;

My Kimber conversion is bought & paid for, it just hasn't arrived yet.  It'll be going on my Kimber frame for extensive testing.  I'll keep you posted as to what my results are.

By the way, I paid $250.00 for mine, you can make deals on them.

Gunrunner;

STILL haven't been able to shoot the Kimber conversion, but do have some comments on the unit.

I've had a Wilson Combat ambidextrous safety added to my Kimber frame.  That was done shortly after I got the gun, several years ago.  The Wilson safety had an interference fit with the safety notch in the slide of the conversion .22 kit.  This has been corrected by slowly & carefully taking off about .002 of material on the forward edge of the slide notch.  T'aint blue no-mo, but the safety engages properly.  Never did have a problem with the fit on the .45 slide.

Other than that, the conversion appears to be a well built unit.  I do like the fact that mine's got the rear adjustable Bo-Mar type sight & a target blade on the front.  I don't like the cost of getting more magazines though.  I also don't like the fact that I haven't shot it yet!
