Hey guys, my hunt for a muzzleloader is over. Today, i was using the weed wacker to shorten a lawn, it was too tall for a lawn mower, and i ran outa gas. My dad pulls in and i convinced him we needed to go inside to the gunshop whose lawn i was trimming, and see what the guy had. He had to rush down to the auto shop and drop off his 72 dodge pickup, so we just looked around to see what he had. When he got back, i pointed out a muzzleloader that was sitting on the rack. It was a funny looking thing that at first i thought was a .22, but it couldnt be that because the barrel was way too big and it had a ramrod. I inquired about the frontstuffer and the guy told me that it was a T/C Scout in .50 caliber. I checked the price tag and it was 95 dollars!!! He also had a T/C Renegade .54 caliber there, but it was too clumsy for me. I held the T/C Scout, and it balanced pretty well, and was drilled and tapped for a scope. He told me that he bought it from an estate sale and that the guy kept it under his bed. He asked me if i wanted to borrow it to try it out. I said yes, but i didnt have anything to shoot in it. He showed me a leather possibles bag filled with stuff. It had 3 full speed loaders, a container of percussion caps, 12 T/C Maxi-Hunters, a cleaning jag, a replacement nipple that was the wrong size (he got all this stuff from the same estate sale), a sling and a bunch of other stuff. I thanked him many times. We stopped back at my house after i had finished the lawn, and my dad pulled out a little thing of Pyrodex powder. We then went inside, because it was our lunch break. My dad ordered a T/C manual for the scout, seeing as it was free. When we were pulling into a place on our way to the work site (all this was owned by my dad's boss, so it was perfectly legal) we stopped at a clearing. There was an old car fender on the other side of the clearing and behind was a hill, so we had a backstop. I pulled out the t/c scout and loaded it up. BOOOM, it fired and i hit the fender. My dad loads it up and fires and Pang, only the percussion cap ignites. This happened three times before he decided to take it apart. We completely stripped it, and i took a wire and pushed it through the flash hole, which was completely blocked, and since i could see through the flash hole and out the end of the barrel, we put it back together. He put on the 4th percussion cap and pulled the trigger, BOOOOM. He drilled the fender. I then fired three more shots through it. When we were done with work, we dropped by the gunshop again so I could buy it. THe guy was just leaving so the purchase was done through car windows! I brought it home and cleaned it, and here i am telling you guys about it. It weighs right around six pounds, i think, and is pretty handy. I will probably get some scope rings and use that Redfield 2.5 power scope on it.

That T/C Max-Hunter turns into a very big mushroom when it goes through metal and hits the dirt. One of them opened up to .75 to 1 inch! It is really handy, and it ignited fine as soon as i cleaned out the flash channel. I was suprised how little it kicked for a 6 lb. .50 cal muzzleloader. I found out why a little while ago. I was loading it with 37.7 grains of Pyrodex. I have read that you shouldnt use pyrodex in the scout, but i am not sure if it was true or not, it was at shooters .

Hey guys, should i get a Marble Tang rear sight for the scout? I found out that they make them. I am reconsidering putting a scope on it now. O well, i will see what happens next.

BTW: It isnt all pyrodex that doesnt work in the Scout it is just Pyrodex pellets.
