Arguably one of the BEST all around deer cartridges going. Not too chabby for a cartridge that is now well over 100 years old. Kinda like another venerable one, the .30-30 Winchester........just keeps going!

Tikka 695 All Weather stainless synthetic 6.5x55mm with B&L 3000 3-9x40mm

Remington 700 Classic 6.5x55mm with B&L 3000 3-9x40mm

Ruger 77 MkII 6.5x55mm with Bushnell ScopeChief VI 2-8x32mm

I dont have a use for a 6.5x55mm right now, and i cant see one in the near or maybe even moderate future because i havent seen a single on in a left handed action, and i really dont want to spend my money on a custom rifle when there are soo many good sporters out there.

I got my retainer today, and i am gagging about once every five minutes.

NH Hunter - I too am a leftie. And left eye dominant. But, I only own right handed bolt rifles. I shoulder them left. I work the bolt with my right hand. Seems to work well enough that I've never felt the need to buy a left-handed bolt rifle.

Don't know anything about retainers. Suppose they are good to straighten out crooked teeth. When I was much younger the old family dentist accomplished the same thing for me, but yanked out two on the top front that were crowding the others. With them out, the others grew in completely straight. Hurt like hell, but it's nice to have straight teeth. You'll be thankful when you get older!

But getting back to the 6.5x55mm.... once you try it, you'll be sold. Just like thousands of others before!

Regards, Marcus.

You really know how to hurt a guy don't you!  Figure that with three 6.5s you could get rid of one.  I have a Tikka shoulder patch . . . all I need is that 6.5 to make the outfit complete!     You need one of those Tikka [Hakko] 52mm, or is it 54mm? objective scopes instead of that B&L.

I plead guilty to owning four. And none are for sale. And any others are welcome to follow me home. They are chambered in one of the great cartridges of the world.

Fella's;

Bought the '94 Remington Classic in 6.5X55 for my son's 16th birthday.  It's truely an excellent cartridge.  It has probably taken as many European moose as any two or three other cartridges combined.  The 140's'll go through a brick wall.

I'm left handed also.  Shot Right Hand Bolt guns for years.  NO MORE.  If they can't be bothered to put the bolt where I want it, I can't be bothered to give them money.  Any other attitude just leads to more of the same; being a third class citizen in the shooting world.

NH Hunter is right, I'd like to have a 6.5X55 of my very own, in either a Ruger #1 or LHB.  But so far, that's not been findable.  Speaking of which.  Howcome Ruger makes these RSI models, but won't put Euro cartridges in them to go with the styling?  Doesn't make sense to me.

Hi Fred - Great to see you posting back on BSB! I'm not ashamed to admit an affinity for the 6.5x55mm. I once chopped up a perfectly good Model 96 Swede military short rifle [24"] barrel in my first quest for a "sporter". Finally, decided the only thing to do was to buy an honest factory sporter in the cartridge and leave the military guns in their original form. Here's a nice M38 Swede military that I picked up at our local two day gunshow last fall....in the end I only paid about $75 Canadian for it [got it and a M96 full rifle with the 30" barrel & straight bolt on a deal, then flipped the M96 to someone else...] This M38 is a 1942 Husqvarna mfg.

This time I'm gonna leave this rifle "as is". Hey, if I ever get the chance at a Winchester Model 70 Featherweight in 6.5x55mm, I'll jump at it!

Regards, Marcus.

I have always liked the 6.5x55. I always seem to end up with Swedes, but have never bought a sporting rifle in the caliber.Currently I have two converted M96s, a straight military 1896, three M38s, and a Lungman AG42B. My wife says I'm not a collector, just an accumulator.

Hey CB, the reason Ruger doesnt make their RSI's in Euro cartridges is: A- there isnt a big enough market, B- Guns are rolling out of the warehouse about as fast as a rowboat takes to cross the Atlantic Ocean during th winter, C- Why chamber a rifle in a cartridge whose ammo is more expensive to superior american cartridges, and would help fund overseas companies. The Rugers are very patriotic. Also, William Batterman Ruger Jr. is much more interested in cars then guns.

6.5 X 55 cartridges are made here in the states, and have been for many years.
