boat decal requirements - montana

BE AWARE OF BOAT DECAL REQUIREMENTS BEFORE LAUNCHING
Boat owners are already preparing for the 2006 season and that includes
getting the proper decals on their vessel before launching.
Sailboats 12 feet long and longer, all motorboats, and all personal
watercraft must be registered, numbered and they must display the
proper decals.
Required decals include:
·      a permanent registration decal issued by the county treasurer's office
when a boat is registered, and
·      two free validation decals.
Boaters can pick up the two free validation decals when they get the
permanent decal at their county treasurer’s office.
Boaters who have already permanently registered their boats, may pick up
their two free validation decals at any Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks
regional or area office around the state.   To complete the paperwork with
FWP, boat owners will need to have with them the permanent registration
receipt issued by the county treasurer.
Boaters can also request the two free validation decals by going to the
FWP website at: fwp.mt.gov . Decals are mailed in approximately two
weeks. Validation decals expire on February 29, 2008.
The Montana law requires owners of motorboats, sailboats or personal
watercraft
to display the decals as follows:
·        a permanent registration decal on the left-side (port) of the bow,
·        two free validation decals, one on each side of the bow.
