Everyone,

I saw a very strange truck the other day at least it was strange for the flatlands of West Texas.  It was an average late model Dodge 4x4 probably a 1 ton chasis configured as a service vehicle.  However instead of 4 wheels with tires it had a track unit on each corner attached to the axles.  They looked to have been 3.5 - 4 feet long and at least a foot wide.

I'd expect to see a vehicle like this up north or in the mountains, but not out here.

Anyone know anything about this type of vehicle?

I've seen some of the conversions.  Pretty nice but not a practical thing for me.

They get used a lot up here in Mn on the ice (frozen lakes), mostly at resorts.  They say if you get stuck with them you don't need to be there.

There's a used...something...for sale here.  I'm really not sure what it is.  It looks like an old Jeep truck, or maybe a Willys.  Reeeeeally rough and rugged looking.  Slap a four-pack of those tracks on that baby and I bet it would climb trees.

If you have never hunted or traveled in and 8 wheel all drive (it is a boat also) ARGO, you haven't lived.  Great go everywhere machine made in southern Ontario.  Loves snow, mud, permafrost, and steep winding ravines.  Could be better when crossing deep fast ice choked rivers at the Arctic circle.
