Finally getting out on the ice the first time this year. It's been a bad year for ice fishing. Lots of snow when the ice was thickening that slowed down the ice getting safe enough to drive on. The snow also caused the ice to flood and make a lot of slush. Coming out of a deep freeze this week finally. Found a resort that has a great system of roads plowed on Winnibigoshish up here in northern Minnesota so we're gonna hit it probably Thursday. We'll be fishing mainly Walleye, but hope for Perch, Northern Pike, and Tullibees. Hopefully I'll have some pictures to post.

They are great smoked. I've never caught one myself. But I've had them given to me and I smoked them then canned the meat. Bill |

OK got it now. we have the same fish, we call them Ciscoes or Coregonus. They are generally thought of as bait fish, and usually feed on small plankton or flies. Tough to catch on a hook, at least for me. Locally they get about 10-12 inches. When working for DEC I use to shock in Lake Erie streams for muskies. Some days we scooped these up by the net full.
Good luck let us know what you used to catch them. |

![]() Here's a link to view slide show from my fishing trip. Fishing was good. Me and my nephew Justin only caught 2 each. But we lost a lot. My friend Leroy caught the majority. It was pretty easy getting out there and off the lake. We flooded about 50 yards of the side road we setup on. Fourwheel drive van had no problems getting through the flooding. Justin took all the fish home, all we caught were Tullibee. Didn't take any pictures of me with the 2 I caught. The one picture here shows the bucket about half full, it was full when we left. Justin took a picture of the fish before they started cleaning. There's 18 in the picture and there still was more in the bucket. Edited by wildbill69 |

I guess they are smoking some and frying some. No idea how they will fix them up.

I'd think they would be like Mullet or shad. Smoked and using a fork to slide the meat of all the small bones would be a good way toeat them with a cool one! Let me know how they taste. The ones around here don't get that big. |

Someone gave me a bunch to smoke several years ago. After smoking I canned the meat that way you don't have to mess with the bones they soften up in the canner.
