every year I drain the snow blower, mower, outboard etc tanks. If the gas in there is over a few months I put it in my burn can. I use the burn can gas for starting fires, etc. Usually I have on a few gallons so the skunk gas gets used over the year. For some reason (probably E-10 issues) this year I have about 6 gallons of old skunk gas. more than I can use. Any uses for it? how can I get rid of environmentally safe??? |

Instead of storing it, I just add it to my gas tank. Unless it's dirty or has water in it, a couple of gallons of boat gas, won't hurt your rig. I burn up my old two stroke gas in my lawn mower, half mix/half fresh gas, it just lubes top half of engine and soots up the plug a little.

I use that "old" skunk gas in my tractor or lawnmowers BUT never in an outboard motor....never.....the alcohol gas is bad 'nuff when it is fresh in outboards.....actually I try to use non-alcohol gas in all my small engines, we have access to that ie reg unleaded, from our local farmers co-op. |

I would think that 2 cycle gas with oil in it is inviting disaster with the anti pollution devices and the catalytic converters on cars and trucks. I just put a few drops of Stabil in mine and it doesn't seem to get skunky or jelly like in my snowblower or lawnmower from season to season. RD

When I was a kid "skunky gas" was a bigger problem. Alcohol is a preservative. Maybe the extra "E" plays a factor in the deteriorization of gas? For me very rarely do I have problems with letting things sit with gas over our 5 month winter other than motorcycles. DD |

It is said the current gas supplies only stay "good" for maybe a month...and not to bust any bubbles but my small engine dealer & the retired Tech Ed dept head guy from UofMT at Missoula say the "stabil" in the red color is bad for engines. Can't offer any more proof than those testimonials but I believe them and don't use it any more. I do use "Sea-Foam" in my gas tanks tho........ BUT then the local Evinrude dealer says to use the grey colored Stabil in outboard gas to combat the alcohol in it from eating up the innards of the metal gas tanks and lines etc on the outboards. I do use that product in my Evinrude outboards but I also have a place as noted above to buy unleaded w/o any alcohol in it from the local farmers coop that I use in all my small engines both 4cycle and 2 cycle. |

"I burn up my old two stroke gas in my lawn mower" I do agree that, it may be better to leave tank full and add stabil to fuel. An empty gas tank will have more condensation in it and will rust out faster than a full one. |
