yeah, the colors... since i am so severely colorblind, i really appreciate starkly contrasting colors (fire and night sky in this case). also think it is cool that you can see where everything is happening... notice the fire by the hammer, cylinder gap, ports, and barrel... and that poor scope... geeze... handgun scopes must get the sh** kicked out of them...

Photo any of the high intensity revolver cartridges shot at late evening and I'd imagine this pic could be duplicated pretty easily. See what you have to look forward to, DAKOTASIN? Photo your .480 at night and you should get something similar. A ported barrel can be hell on your scope if ya have the bugger pushed forward to far.
Was their mention of specifics for this pic (revolver, cartridge, load)?
It is definitely a neat pic showing how the gases escape a revolver. Later. >> klallen

i know the cartridge is a 454 casull. i believe the gun is a taurus raging bull.
i'll be getting the 480 this afternoon... had the check run yesterday, so i don't anticipate any troubles getting it today.
i'll see if i can get a similiar pic taken when i get my 480 rolling... it might be abit, though... just too damned cold right now (still) to be out at night playing.

oh, no mention of the load. i think it is a factory load, but seems to me that anybody that has a 454 loads their own... dunno. no specs offered. from where i robbed the pic, he called the gun a 'raging lunatic', and it appears to have the raging bull profile, thus the reason i think it is a taurus.
will be looking at a few scopes tomorrow for the 480. keeping everything in mind that has been mentioned here about handgun scopes... will be looking especially hard at bushnell, burris, and leupold. right now, the frontrunner is burris, and i never considered a bushnell until bear said it was a good 'un for him.
and, yeah, the porting does appear to be able to cause all manner of problems w/ a scope... sure glad mine isn't ported. not that i need the extra noise, anyway.

I have fired my XP-100 in .308 Win at night with full tilt rifle loads. It throws a fireball about 20 feet down range and is totally blinding. It isn't ported, and a lot of the powder burns up out of the muzzle, but it is spectacular none the less. I fired it 5 times in a dimly lit indoor range and stopped everyone from shooting in their stalls. Before I got the third one off, I was surrounded by everyone on the range. Yep, shooting at night is sure an eye opener AND blinding...........Kingpin

Can't say I have any revolvers that will match that photo but I have a darling little single shot that if someone wants to sit next to and snap a picture of as I touch them off they are welcome to and I almost positive then entire view will be yellow with fire.
SHe is an XP-100 chambered for the 338 WSM wildcat with a Holland Quick Discharge muzzle brake on the tip.
Favorite load is the 180 gr Ballistic Tip over 68.0 gr Rl-15. Good for 2900 fps and lots of booming and banging.
Good Shooting!!!

Good lord! Great photo Dakota!! I copied it twice for two different files. Make a great desktop. The only time I saw a flash like that was when I fired my Rem M-7 just before absolute dark. I saw the flash through the scope and was amazed my eyes were open.

I carried a Colt Model 357 on my first tour in Viet Nam, as an adviser. I took some handloads that illustrated the meaning of "loaded for bear" -- when you're more afraid of the gun than the bear.
One day I was in 18th ARVN Division Headquarters and saw a Viet Namese Air Force lieutenant with a Colt Python, with a 2 1/2" barrel in his holster. I admired it and he said dolefully, "Can't get right ammunition for it. Can only get .38 Special."
I said, "Truny Huy, I have the right ammo for that gun, I'll bring some tomorrow."
The next day, I brought a box of my handloads, and a little .38 snubby that I had, along with a pocket full of .38 Special powder puff wadcutters someone gave me.
The lieutenant was greatful, and I suggested we go shoot our guns. He lit off the first of my handloads in that short-barreled Python, and a ball of flame engulfed his fist. The front sight made solid contact with his forehead.
While he stood there stunned, I raised my little snubby, and he flinched as I touched off the first of those powder puff loads. Then I offered to let him shoot it -- it took a whole cylinder full before he stopped flinching.
On the way back inside, he said, "You want change guns?"
I protested my gun was a gift, but he said, "You big man, little gun. I little man, big gun. I pilot -- maybe get shot down, need gun I can use."
Regretfully, I took his Python and gave him my little snubby.

Okay -- I'll admit I took advantage of the man. :-)
Reminds me of a friend of mine who was given a mule -- if he could catch it. He ran it down, roped it, fought it to a standstill, and was trucking it home when a fellow asked to buy it.
He said, "Well, I don't know . . . my wife is fixin' to start a garden."
Later on, he would point out, "I didn't say she was gonna plow it with THAT mule!"

I taught classes for concealed carry fror a few years aback in 95-97. One of the last things I did was take the studenst to teh open range at dusk and let them fire a handgun in dim ligt . Most didn't want to shoot one agiain after they saw all that flame around thier hand
