Our Elk hunts generally involve a 4-5 hour boat ride on one of our big lakes, then we make a base camp and walk in to the hunting areas that the elk frequent. Sometimes I will make a small camp for overnight just around the treeline, so I can get an early start in the AM. The success rate for our party is running around 80% right now, with no season a skunk in the last 5. Have had to deal with some weather though, especially if the wind gets up on the lake. Can get very cold here during the last part of elk season, so one has to be prepared. Regards, Eagleye.
Never argue with an idiot. They will drag you down to their level & then beat you with experience!

Archery. We pack in 14 miles. I'm doing 66% there so far. I mostly hike and bugle or ride and bugle until I get a response. I also do some stalking and some ambush stuff.

Rifle. Lately I've tried to hunt the high country or the land just below it on the migration routes. It's spike only hunting and I haven't done really well at that yet. I'm still getting the travel routes figured out. I usually watch feeding areas morning and evening and sneak the timber mid day.

I used to drive into a timber company area and camp. We watched feeding areas morning and evening, mostly around wet meadows, clearcuts, or swamps. We snuck the timber in the day. I was 4 elk for 6 seasons there, but I knew the area well. That area is weekend only  access now and no camping allowed.

Hike up mountains, check for sign. If there is some then we follow it. Group got 1 elk last year.
