Lost a Colt Series 70 .45 ACP and a Rossi coachgun in a burglary. Never recovered, I still carry the serial numbers in hope that I runacross them someday.

A friend of a friend lost a Colt Lightning revolver in a burglary about ten years ago. He constanbtly carried the serial with him. Whenever he saw a Lightning for sale, he checked the number. About six years after his loss, he found hi revolver in a pawnshop. He went outside, called the local PD, and gave the case number and serial number. An officer was on the scene a few minutes later and recovered the gun for him. Then he simply calledhis insurance company, "bought" the gun back from them by repaying the claim amount, and was a very happy camper. He got his revover back, the insurance company got their money back. the only loser was the pawnshop that bought the stolen gun.

I doubt I will be that lucky, but it can happen. I found another Rossi a few years later and replaced it. That was back before cowboy slaction shooting was popular, so a double hammergun with 20 inch barrels was tough to find.

Triggerguard

Have you ever run your own check of the numbers through your local, state and federal government agencies to see if they have been recovered? You can do your own checks through the ATF and the FBI to see if they were recovered in another state. Also check with your state agency, whatever it’s name may be, as the weapons may be sitting in another city or town. Don’t depend on the these agencies contacting you as most times they don’t. When I was on the sheriffs department we had a number of firearms sitting in storage that had been recovered from different sources and many had been there for years. Just a thought. Lawdog

Never had any firearms stolen.  Loaned my Taurus .44 RemMag to a brother-in-law a couple years back who used it for a good deal longer that I originally thought he would, but it was returned in fine fashion.  >>  klallen

Never lost a firearm but I don't loan or borrow outside of the immediate family. No way.

I've never had a firearm stolen in the traditional sense. However, a few years back to finance the legal bills resulting from attempting to dislodge my life from that of my ex-wife, I reluctantly sold some off some guns.... among them:

  • Browning 1886 SRC .45-70
  • Browning BLR [new model] .308
  • Ruger 77/44 bolt action .44 Magnum
  • Husqvarna Featherweight bolt action .308
  • Brno #5 bolt action rifle .22 lr
  • Winchester mfg M1 Garand .30-06
  • Winchester [pre '64's] 1894's .30-30 [x 3]
  • Winchester 1894 "PCMR" carbine [40's vintage] .30-30
  • Winchester "Legendary Lawman" carbine .30-30
  • Remington 788's in .30-30 & .308.
  • Remington 870 12 ga deer gun/rifle sites.
  • Remington 870 20 ga vent rib/grouse gun.
  • Colt USGI 1911A-1 .45 ACP
  • Ithaca USGI 1911A-1 .45 ACP
  • Colt Delta Elite 10mm
  • Colt Government 9mm
  • Colt Series '70 Gold Cup N.M. .45 ACP [x2]
  • Colt Series '80 Gold Cup N.M. .45 ACP
  • Colt Series '70 .45 ACP
  • Browning 1910 .32 ACP
  • Beretta Model 21A .22lr
  • Walther PPK .32 ACP
  • Star Model B 9mm
  • S&W Model 25-2 .45 ACP/.45 AutoRim
  • S&W Model 28 Highway Patrolman .357 Magnum

That's probably not the complete list. I also sold a Remington 700 .308 (that was my very first center-fire rifle) and a Remington-Rand USGI 1911 in .45 ACP but I have since reacquired them!

Anyway, despite the above....

Q: Why do divorces cost so much money?

A: 'Cause they are worth it!

Funny but true!

Marcus.
