yeah, i know. i think the credit can be given to roy weatherby for bringing in the white line spacers... they aren't that bad - they are just a way of having a rifle show its age... kinda like walking into somebody's house and looking at the furniture/paint and knowing it hasn't been touched since the 70's...

Sell those .30-06's right here. We need more of them in Great Falls to offset the lunatic fringe & get the bell curve back in the shape it oughta be.

"offset the lunatic fringe" Excuuuuuuuuse Me !!! I think I resemble that remark.
Gonna have to put a bulletin at all entrances to GF. No more '06's allowed till the over-flow of orphans at the local stores and pawn shops have all been adopted.
"Klallen, you will never, i repeat, never defeat the thirty aught six. I love it so much i have to spell it out every time i write it!" Oh NH. So young. So impressionable. Try these on for size : two sixty four winchester magnum, seven millimeter remington ultra magnum, seven point eight two warbird, four sixteen remington magnum. Aren't these better? What the hell we spelling them out for, anyway? Oh yeah, cause we love'em !!!

Hey Guys
The proof is in the freezer,.308,if I had olny one gun that would be it blasting out 165gr Serria Game stompers. If no .308's were in the picture a 7mm-08 would do nicely.
Sorry guys,I was a one gunner for years before I met up with you all,and I have wondered time and time again how in the world I ever survived with just a .308,I'm so glad you fine folks have taught me the error of my ways, how in the world did things just bite the dust with that puny little old thing, boy if they would have known it was a .308 I'm sure they would have just kept going.

There are a lot of good points here, and I don't know where to begin. How about this, the .308 is a more efficient .30-06. That's not meant to be a put down, just look at them side by side on paper. They are almost identical. As far as the .30-06 falling by the wayside, National Matches still see their share of .30-06's, although the 5.56 MM is gaining in popularity by leaps and bounds. Long ago, in a galaxy far, far, away, I began metallic silhouette shooting with a Sako Finbear Deluxe in .30-06. A year later, I barreled a Remington 700 with a big fat .30-06 barrel (probably a front runner for the Sendaro). Two years after that I built a 7MM 08 and used it for 5 years before I went back to .30 caliber in .308 Winchester, or 7.62X51 NATO. I still shoot the .308. I have many many of them in all configurations to allow me a lot of options depending on where and what I plan to shoot. I also invite your attention to the National Match Records Book. Until the advent of the .300 H&H, the .30-06 ruled the roost in all rifle competitions in the 1000 yd class. I personally shoot an 18 pound .300 Win Mag for that, but that's another story. I also use a .300 Win Mag for general hunting. Not because it's better, just because I prefer it. When I hear all the arguements about the .270/.30-06, it makes me laugh. I have a few .30-06's, many more .308's, several .300 Win Mags, and enough of the newly coined "party cartridges" to make a lot of people envious. I also have a raft of .22 lr rifles. For my money, I'd buy a .30-06 anytime I saw a good deal on one. There is a variety of factory loadings everywhere in the world to allow you to use it in different applications, and keep in mind, that the .30-06 has killed everything on the planet at one time or another. Not saying that it's ideal for buff and elephants, but you don't need to feel undergunned if it's all you have in any type of survivsl type situation. I have used one to kill groundhogs (I have never been a subscriber to the super centerfire .22's) and have used one to stop a mean bulls clock once. Graveyard dead is just that, graveyard dead. I think that if any cartridge has achieved immortality, it would be the .30-06. Just last week, a younger fellow, who always shoots a .300 Weatherby, was thinking of buying him a new rifle in a new caliber, the .30-06. I explained it to him that it wasn't new, but it's a good choice. He bought it. I SAID he was young, never having heard of the .30-06. Well the grass needs chopped off, gotta go for now........Kingpin
