The Little GD and I both got called for the same unit for a damage Mule deer doe hunt.
It starts today and runs to Feb 1st.
We can get two more deer EACH.
She is off starting Wednesday for Christmas Vacation, to Jan 3rd, I will try to get a day spot for this Thursday.
I'm hoping the snow will stay away, just easer to get around. The hunt is on the prairie and grazing land. I'm not a fan of hunting the high ground in the winter, and NOT for a doe.
I'm hoping we can get all 4 in the one day.

Big smileYes Wing she IS smiling.
So am I, We found a herd along side a farm road in the unit, waited for daylight, just a few minutes.
We get out set up she picked her first victim waited for the shot and the death ray ( 6.5 Grendel, 123 sst) went off, one down, picked the next flop she was finished, My turn 8mm is plenty for 120 yard does First one big band, down then another Big bang and we where finished.
The drag out was a snap, the boy hooked 2 together, I grabbed the bigger one and Little GD grabbed the last. down hill on snow 120 yards to the truck. In the truck finished and gutted 9:45 after pics.

"time at range paid off royaly."
About that.
The same time we were shooting and killing deer, about 600 yards down the same road, the same herd of deer.
A Guy and his daughter a year older then Josie had tags too. Josie has her own gun tailored to her and how she shoots, light recoil tuned in bullets.
They were sharing his 270.
The deer did not run or even stop eating with 5 people two trucks and shooting.
We shot two and then waited for them to shoot.
The girl was shooting first, now remember the deer are like 120 yards standing still. she shot and had to reload and shoot again till she got scoped. They stopped for a minute for first aid so that's when I shot my two. The Dad loaded the rifle and shoot two loads of shells before the deer walked over the hill out of sight. No deer hit in like 12 shots all together. We walked down to offer some first aid Items which they did not have and went to the chore of gathering deer. We went up the road and out of sight to gut, we heard a few more shot.
On our way back from gutting the same truck was going down the farm road with no blood on it???
We had to drive past where we shot, and the deer where back even closer to the road, no idea if they ever hit a deer.

Trigger time !!!!!

Sad, but that happens all to often.  not just kids  that don't learn.  I've had a number of combat vets that couldn't shoot at all.  And they were to maccho to shoot a light recoiling rifle, even like a 30-30.  All wanted 30-06 with 180 grains or a belted magnum.  Nice guys, but I just gave up on them and their shooting.

A smaller person NEEDS a smaller rifle.
A child needs to work in to recoil.
I fear that girl will not want to hunt again.

I totally agree D.

It's obvious that you have it figured out. In my opinion theirs no reason to put a young girl or boy for that matter behind a .270. I'm sure getting scoped didn't get her too excited about taking the next shot.

I wish my granddaughter had as much trigger time as "Annie". I'm sure you'll never have the problems that guy and girl did.
