:D
I have finished braking in the barrel and I had it out "Hunting" for the first time the other day. ![]() I went calling with my boy. It was COLD,SNOWY,AND WINDY. We saw 6 dogs on the trip out but only had one come in to the call. It stopped ( he saw the truck) over 400 yards away ,my range finder would not lock on to him. We watched him for a long time , finally I thought I'd give him a try, that's why we got a 22 250. The wind was blowing side to side around 13 mph. I'm shooting a 34 grain grenade going 4200 fps. I put it dead center his chest and over three body widths and squeezed the trigger. My boy was watching and the snow jumped dead center his chest and one body with the other side He ran off like the devil him self was chasing him. We did some more sets with out any response. We gave up at 2:00 pm and started home on the way we stopped at one last spot. Still windy but from the North west now. We split up on this set. A few tries and he come a FOX from Down wind of us he trotted up to about 80 yards from me,and stopped and tried to make out what I was, just long enough for me to switch around and put him in my scope. The 22 250 loaded like that is a bit much for a fox at 80 yards. It went in at the base of his neck and came out just under the brest bone. It took all the guts with it and all the belly skin. One dead fox... ![]() [size=18]He's sure is a good looker. We will keep the pelt for a throw.

That is a good looking fox. I think I would keep a few if they look like that. Wing master |

D4570: Good job on the Fox! Many happy returns of the day (with less wind though). I think I recognize the scope as a Leupold - maybe a 3x9? But which Rifle is your 22-250? The camo is throwing me a recognition curveball. Great photos also. Hold into the wind VarmintGuy |

D4570: Thanks for the link - I enjoyed those pictures and the additional information also. I am happy you are doing so well with your new Thompson Venture Predator! And you pose an interesting question - which predator eats more Ground Squirrels - Fox, Coyotes or Badgers? I am not sure of the correct answer but I watch the Fox in the field next to my home try to sneak up on Ground Squirrels for hours on end. I can tell when the Fox get a mouse but I seldom see them take a live Ground Squirrel. On occassion they do but its rarecompared to their success on mice. I often go back at night to the fields/areas where I have shot Ground Squirrels during the day - the Badgers are out and about even more so than in the daytime. I am sure they are attracted by the smell of blood and carnage. I have killed a lot of Badgers using a spotlight at night in a recently "shot over" Gopher field. Most of my Ground Squirrel Hunting partners though are "to tired" to go back out at night and drive back to the Gopher grounds to begin looking for Badgers - PANSIES. I see Coyotes Hunting Ground Squirrels "more often" out in the "rural" Ground Squirrel haunts (sage and wild grass areas) than I do see them in the cultivated fields - I think the Coyotes are more aware of the dangers in areas that have been shot in, recently, than either Fox or Badger. Good question you pose - who eats the most Ground Squirrels the Fox, the Coyotes or the Badgers? I don't know. Keep after'em Hold into the wind VarmintGuy
