[size=20]I broke my dry spell Friday.[size=17]The sun came out ,the wind stopped and it was THE day I've been waiting for all winter[size=15]We where out in the field at sunup, the wind layed down and was from the north at around 6 mph the temp was +39 Perfect for the area we where going to cal. We had one of our famous Chinooks and most the snow was gone so the walking was easy in the CRP grass. We hid the truck set up "KUJO" our decoy and settled in to cal . We start this time of year with a Female in heat cry and then later a pup in distress and then go in to the dieing rabbet stuff. Well this first set we hit the first and off about a mile and a half we saw two dogs running in hard, one more call of a hot bitch and it sealed the deal. No more calling was needed. The female came in first and at 80 yards I touched off the 243 and center punched her in the chest. Off to my right I heard my boys rifle click He misfired, so I swung on th the mail and popped him at 180 yards with a lung/spin shot. My first ever double ever. We did another set a few miles away and had the same set up a hill side in the CRP and miles of open country in front of us. One call and yup two more dogs coming in fast. This time they hung up at 350 yards and would not come another foot closer, we throw the book at them and the just layed down. Later we found out they could see the rear end of the truck on the road and would not commit any more. After 20 minuets we decided to take a shot. We normally sit and use shooting sticks but for this one we need to lay down. The grass was long and we had to strain to got up over the top. We shot my boy first, If I hadn't flinched a bit from his shot I could have had a shot at the mail when he was still laying still, but NO when I got a shot off he was in hyper drive and I didn't conect. The female didn't get up the 223 40 gr hit it's mark and it was good night puppy!!!Four more sets we conquered up 5 more coyotes but could not get a shot. One of the sets was over a prairie dog colony ,after the calling we set and shot prairie dogs till we ran out of shells. We got about 17 little dogs WHAT FUN!!! We skinned the three coyotes and where home for dinner. [size=18]NICE |

Sounds like a great time. Those 243's are great for long range sniping. I set up on a dead horse a couple of years ago and sniped a couple at a little over 300 yds. I have seriously considered getting a 243 Ackley made just for that kind of fun. That was a nice shot with the 223. I personally don't bother with the pelts over here in WA, too many of them have mange and a buyer won't touch them if they do. Plus, like you said, a lot of work for 30 dollars. Good hunting bob
