You just can't beat The Duke. Or Audie Murphy. Best western movie? Couldn't name it. Have lots of favorites though. Way too many to mention.

Mr Mom,  are you going to get Nathan the full size 30-30 or the cut down model, like Steve McQueen used?   Either way, I'll bet he'll cut down your crow population.   Maybe a bit big for a crow, but some crows are pretty dang big!

Nathan + 30-30 = dead crow

See, you can tell him that math does come in handy.   LOL

Somebody better call the Secret Service. Let 'em know there's an illegal alien in the White House...and it ain't the cook!!

I forgot about Brisco County Jr.  It was only on for a few years, and was kind of weird, but it was a good show.  Did any of you watch it?

Well Boys! Yup, them was some mighty fine shows and memories to boot.

Mr. Mom.......Andy DeVine wasn't ridin in no jeep....He was plumb scared of vehicles that moved faster than him. He rode and was the sidekick to a man named "Guy Madison" who played "Wild Bill Hickcock" You sir, are thinking of Mr. Pat Brady, Roy Rogers sidekick.

Big Lost! Hoppy was my Uncle in real life form, he could have run for president and beat Gen. Ike.....Now that is popular folks.

Sorry, I didn't responed earlier, been down a bit in my health. I'll give you sprouts some other cowboys in a day or two......some might recall these heroes of the big screen. Tom Mix is one ya's can toss about.

Fella's;

What happened to Gene Autry?  He quit acting, bought the Angels baseball team & then died not so long ago.

Wooden bullets; the Japs also were known to use them in the 2nd world war.

The best western movie I remember was COWBOY, starring Jack Lemmon.  He started out as a nerdy little hotel clerk in Chicago when the real Texas cowboys delivered stock to the city.  Anyway, he got caught up with them, they got him drunk & he woke up with them on his way to Texas.  Only way he could get back to Chicago was to work the ranch & do the trail drive back.

Clint Eastwood played Rowdy on Rawhide.  And, I hate to admit it, but I can remember watching Gunsmoke as first run.  Apprentice old fart, that's me.

Birth certificate!? He don't need no steenkink birth certificate!!

CB900F.....Yup, Gene Autry was quite a cowboy in the movies, I sure did like the horse he rode. I think it was the best movie/TV horse I ever saw perform. Champ had it all, confermation, color, speed, just a real handy horse. White stockings and a blaze face.....It just don't get no better in horse flesh.

They did get some flashy horses back then. A friend of mine, who I learned the farrier trade from years ago, sold a lot of horses to the studios. He was a stuntman, and also shod a lot of horses for them. He kept the stock on Gunsmoke shod all the time. He didn't really care for James Arness, but said Ken Curtis was pretty much the same type person you would expect him to be. He also shod Trigger for Roy Rogers until the horse died.

He also worked with Yakima Canutt, the grand daddy of all stunt men, who did the scene in Stagecoach going under the team, under the coach, and then remounting it. First time it was ever done, or filmed. And Jock Mahoney, who starred in Range Rider, and Yancy Derringer. Anyone here old enough to remember those ones? Jock also starred as Tarzan in one of the old movie series.

While with him at the Great Western Gun Show years ago, we had dinner with Jock, Yakima, and Pat Butram. A very intersting and entertaining evening. I also met Patrick Wayne there. He wanted to do some trading for some of my goods. It was shortly after the Duke had died, and he was getting rid of some of his dad's stuff. I could have had two large Remington bronzes that had belonged to John Wayne, but wasn't smart enough to figure out how to get them back to Montana again. We had a full car load of people and goods already. I was too broke back in those days to consider shipping them.

Waksupi.......Yes, I certainly remember "Jock Mahoney" I really like his character on the show. I thought too, he was the next best Tarzan to Johnny Wiesmueller. Jim Davis was also a favorite of mine in those days of TV cowboys (played a railroad detective) and Western movies. He also played in a lot of other Western movies as a character actor. Those days are gone and I don't think we shall ever see them come back again, least wise not in my lifetime.

Hollywood and TV land are more interested in SEX, Killings, Fast Cars!

Ken Curtis, was a guy who played Westerns very well and could sing like an angle of the LORD...Amen. Well, all those boys known as the "Sons Of The Pioneers" could sure put harmony together. I have a whole collection (Roy Rogers too) of their Western songs.
