I got one for the 12 gage for X-mas and a bunch of 3 1/2 hulls. Now what to do with them. I'm thinking about a #4 buck coyote load and I'll try the rolled crimp too?:confused::stoner:

I'm going to try;

load#1- Fiocchi 3 1/2" hull ,fio 616 primer ,37 gr Bluedot,MM1234 wad,2 os12 card, 2 oz #4 buck and a roll crimp. PSI 13,500-FPS 1275

load#2-Fiocchi 3 1/2" hull ,fio 616 primer,40 gr Bluedot , Bpgs+tps-1275 , two scoops buffer ,      1 os12 card,1 5/8 oz #4 buck, and a roll crimp.     PSI 11,000 FPS 1340 :confused:

How far can you shoot a coyote with a #4 load? Yea, I think 40 grains of Blue Dot might push a little.

Thats #4 buck= 24 caliber

I'm hoping for 65 yards. I have dumped them flat dead at 80 yards with 3 1/2" load of dead coyote #t, hevi shot.

About how much spread do you expect at 65 yards?

This is very interesting because I am kinda a shotgun guy.

With my Extra -turkey choke the "T" dead coyote will put 80% in a 4 foot paper at 70 yards. I'm hoping at least 30 of the 40 pellets, but I think 25 will be workable

I went out and tested the #4 loads.I put a 3'x4' paper out at 70 yards and shot off sticks with my extra full extended turkey choke. I aimed to high the first shot expecting it to drop a bit but it doesn't. With that Shot I had 17 hits( out of 40 ) The next 5 I shot dead on and each time I had 23 hits. I also tried some "Fold crimp" 34 buck same load. One I had a delayed ignition (????) the other 4 hit the ground in front of the target with just a very few hits on target????I think the rolled crimp is the way to go.I tried a dead coyote ( hevi-shot) factory load in 3"T" there is WAY more pellets then the buck and only got a slight increase in hits (37) I think I'll amp up another grain of powder and give them a try and see in real world how they kill dogs.

D, They might actually group better with a more open choke. Squeezing this large shot down that tight can create flat spots on the buck shot that makes them veer off target. You might try a shot or two with a mod or full choke to see how they do.  RD

I'll try it.

I have a very similar load with 34 pellets in a 3" version that sucks through a mod but will put 15 of the 34 in the target with the supper choke.

when I reloaded, I found that roll crimps were easier on case mouths, but not as waterproof.  The star crimps seemed to crack with high power loads.

In 1960 I was reloading 2 oz of 2s in 2 3/4 inch 12 ga wit SR powder.  lost the load data long ago.  But it was patterning way too tight for shooting any ducks or geese at 50 yards.  Used them in my double Fox.  Recoil was sever!  My brothers FIL was short 5'2".  He shot two shell at the same time out of my double, by pulling both triggers at a high goose.  It threw him through the cornstalk blind and on to his back.

A few years later I switched to my 10 ga.  I was trying to see how D4570 loads compare to full power  10 ga factory loads?
