Glock 21 .460 Rowland

   Sticking with the Glock 21 conversion theme, the .460 Rowland first caught my eye in late 2011.  Mr. Johnny Rowland was making custom 1911's and Glock 21 conversions for this little powerhouse.  A 230 gr bullet at 1300 fps seemed interesting enough but kinda hard to believe.  So I decided to test the bugger out for myself.
A conversion kit comes with the threaded barrel, a compensator and a metal guide rod with heavy spring. At the time, the kit's ran $330 or so.  I ordered the kit and got another used Glock 21 off GunBroker.  My kit delivered in early 2012 but it was a kit for the compact Glock 30 ... not what I had on hand at the time.  A quick call to the company had the correct kit headed my way with lots of apologies.

By Sept my handgun was together :

For safety reasons, they lengthened the case 1/16th of an inch so that it could not be loaded in .45 ACP chambered handguns (that'd be bad).  They also thickened the base to handle the 40,000 psi working pressures compared to the 19,000 of the ACP.  Starline makes brass.  I fully intended to use a 230 gr .451 xtp and try for that 1300 fps mark but after talking with my brother a little bit, I decided to go a bit heavier.  I bought a box of 250 gr. .452 xtp's and started development.  I ran outa time before winter set in but once I got back to it in the spring of 2013, I settled on a load using 10.2 gr. of Power Pistol achieving almost 1200 fps.  This is a very snappy load in the light Glock, even with the compensator but a fun one to shoot and own.   kor

	DUDE!!! I like'm big! I prefer the looks of a 1911 rather than any of the Glocks.

	I tend to agree. If visually pleasing semiauto's is the end game, ya can't go wrong with a 1911. They are pretty. Got several in the safe that I'll share some stories about in time, I suppose. But with some of these proprietary cartridges, I have to consider economics, too. A $3500 1911 is pretty but being able to get a Glock set up and ready to shoot at 1/3 the cost or less and be able to work with the oddball cartridge desired really can't be beat. Got one more Glock 21 conversion I'm going to share shortly. I got all 3 put together for about the same investment as one custom 1911 in .50 GI or .460 Rowland. From this perspective, I see beauty in Glocks, too. I used to be lukewarm about Glock meaning I had no real desire to buy one. I was aware of their legendary reliability claims, but I couldn't get past the square, blocky looks. I got my first Glockk at the fall gun show here in 2008 ... a 37 in .45 GAP for a steal.
