7mm Remington Magnum, for $439.99

Thinking of putting this on it:

Now I just need dies, bullets, primers, powder, scope rings, etc.

I think they will look cute together. Let's just think of the Ruger as the rugged American and the Tikka as the blond haired blue eyed model. I don't think the '06 will be able to stay away from the Tikka

Well, I ordered Talley low lightweight ring/mount from midway earlier today, and am now ordering components from Cabelas. Why order from 2 places you ask? Well, this morning I tried ordering the whole kit and kaboodle from Midway, and it got an error saying the page could not be found. If they can't be better about mantaining their site, they aren't getting my money if at all possible. They were the only place I could find those rings, but everything else is coming from other places.

NH;

Don't order Talley rings from anybody except Talley themselves.

http://www.talleyrings.com/ and the phone is: (803)854-5700, fax: (803) 854-9315.

Call 'em, talk to them.  They're glad to answer you're questions.  They'll look up your rifle & scope & tell you what the best mount for it is.  Very nice folks to deal with.

NH,

You'll like the Talleys!  I tried a set for the first time this past year.  They are what hold my Weaver Grand Slam 4.5-14X scope on my Winchester Model 70 Super Shadow.  They're the one piece aluminum deals - lightweight, strong with superb fit.  I think they'll become standard equipment with any "lightweight" or "mountain" rifles I get.

Congrat's again.  Now, you'll have something to tinker with over the winter!

Well, thought I would let ya'll know that I have the Tikka 695 7mm Rem mag sitting in my lap as I type this. I have the talley mounts on, but no scope to put in em. I have to say, the Tikka has to have the smoothest action of any hunting rifle I have ever used, but this one is ddddrrrryyyy. I just put some CLP in it to try and smooth it up and succeeded. Now I just need some ammo to shoot to get some brass, and a scope to sight it with. All in all I am very satisfied with my purchase, as this rifle is better than I expected!

  You like it now just wait till you shoot it. Mine does 140's over a stiff charge of W760,will post clovers 2" high at 100 yards as long as I can hold still.

  What I can't figure out is why does everybody doubt me when I tell them about Tikka's ?

  Congrats NH.

Well, just ordered up some brass for it and Midway had a 50% off 160 grain Combined Technologies Fail Safe bullets, so I picked up 3 boxes . I have always wanted to play with them, but couldn't really justify the expense. At 13/50, I think I can do that this time around. I also have 100 160 grain Sierras and 100 Hornady 154 grainers to play with. For powder I am 90% sure I have a full lb. of 4831 laying around somewhere that I can start playing with. Will have to stick with IMR unless I want to drive at least an hour or wait for the next gun show (slim pickins in these parts). Still don't have a scope for the rifle, but I think I should be able to pickup a Loopie VX1 3-9x40 next payday. Might also try a Nikon Buckmaster since I found a place that has the 3-9x40's for about 160-170 bucks, and they are supposed to be equivalent to the Loopie VX2.

I've got the Monarch AT Binoculars and they are some really good glass.  I expect the scope to be just as good if not better!

NH;

Well, we are gonna find out.  I ordered the Monarch 4.5X14 A/O today.  I figure I'll either put it on the A/R platform poodle-shooter I'm building, or upgrade the scope on something else.

Nice rifle NH! I've got two Tikkas. In the 595/695 series. Ones a stainles synthetic in 6.5x55mm and the other is a blued/synthetic in .308 Win. Both wear B&L/Bushnell Elite 3-9x40mm scopes.

You did well!

Well, I got my scope today. Absolutely amazing as far as sharpness and clarity go. Much better than my VX-1. Woah, when did we get spell check? Sorry, back to the point. Much to my surprise, when I tried to put the scope into the mounts (having the mounts facing the same way), the gap between the rings was too much! Now, I thought about it, and decided to flip around the rear mount so the ring portion on front and rear both are the side facing the inside of the action. It now fits with room to spare. So, I pushed it all the way to the rear, and then tried to level the reticle. Well, I must have spent a good 20 minutes on just that task. All the screws are now nice and tight,and the scope looks great on my rifle. I am very pleased with the quality of the Nikon so far and now have the ability to go out and shoot it! I can't wait!

NH;

My Midway Nikon came today also!  I haven't fooled with it, since I don't have anything to put it on right now.  However, it's good incentinve to get to building on my A/R.  That's the platform I'm almost sure to mount it to.

Yes, the Monarch glass is indeed nice stuff isn't it?  I find it to be noticably better than Buckmaster's glass & you don't have to look hard to see the difference either.

What's your opinion of the BDC reticle?  I don't think it's a detriment at all.  Kinda funky lookin', but should be useful if you do the homework.
