I am not that familiar with CD shotguns. Do you know who makes it?

Ron,

I think that is a good price. Compared to an 870 express or a 1400 Winchester the price is in the ball park. I think if I was going to buy one I would look at all 3. Then I would look at used Wing masters. I have a Wing master made in 1956 My dad bought it new. and their is no telling how many rounds have been put through it and it still functions flawlessly.  If you like how it feels and handles go for it.

Now i understand why your name is Wingmaster. LOL i never thought it would have anything to do with the 870 wingmaster. Do you think that the Remington 870 Wingmaster is superior to the Browning BPS Hunter? My dad thinks i should get an 870 because they are made in the US of A, and it would be unpatriotic to buy a firearm that was made in Japan.

NH,

I think an 870 is better than a BPS. Look at used Wing master's. I think express's are ugly. You can pick up a used Wing master for about the same price as a new Express. You will have a shotgun you can be proud of.

Right now i am torn between a lefty 870 and a bps.  I want to help the American econonmy by buying an american firearm, so then i dont have any firearms from any other country. The fact that the BPS is from Japan is really a "turn off."

NH,

I didnt know you were a lefty. I would sugest looking at an Ithica model 37. It has bottom eject and works well for everyone, righty or lefty.

Now dont think I am bad mouthin the BPS, I just think their are other less expensive shotguns that are as good.

Have fun looking.

NH,

What ever you decide on try to find one that fits well. You will hit more birds if it fits. Is their a reason you want a pump? If a semi-auto would work look at a Browning Auto-5, Now thats a fine shotgun.

NH,

   If your hunting grouse (hung. partridge) you'll probably do better with a short barrelled BPS than the remington.  Reason is the Vent Rib, folks tend to shoot under grouse cause you usually have to spot shoot them.  The olympic, or raised rib on the browning helps you see more target, and it shoots a bit higher if your spot shooting.  This happens because you don't have to put your head down on the stock like you do with a flat rib.  Basically when your spot shooting you head tends to stay up looking at the target and you pull the gun up without much time to put your check on the stock.  With the raised rib you don't have to it fits right up to your face without putting your head down.  Faster target aquisition, faster shot - go to the gun shop get both guns look at something close yer eyes and pull up.  Open them and with a raised rib you'll be on more times than with a flat beacuse you don't have to put your check on the stock.

  One note every one is a bit different, you may have to change the drop of the stock with the inserts the gun has, I like using a straight back stock (little drop).  Get one with inserts and play with a bit.  Don't beleive that shooting from high gun (shouldered) is anything nearly the same as what you'll do with low gun.  If you do look at raised rib guns heres a list - BPS, Benelli, Browning fusion, Winchester Super X2.  I'm hell on birds, and now shoot back up so folks will hunt with me.  Still shoot one or two each year before the others get their guns shouldered, you can here them mumbling when I do.  Now that I don't shoot competitively I everything from low gun; trap, skeet, and clays.  Even the salty old trap shooters complement me when I take 23 or over from low gun, and I can do it more times than not.

NH;

I confess I don't understand the Japanese problem with the BPS.  Yes, it's made in Japan, but the owning company, Browning, is American.  The money comes back to the US.  Sure Mikoru pays their workers, but the profit in the gun pretty much stays in the US, 'cause worldwide, that's where the sales are.

It's nice to buy American, and in this case you can do it, regardless of where it's made.  If buy American becomes a fetish, you can be made to look foolish.  Last I knew the forks & shocks on a Harley were made by Showa - a Japanese firm.  Do make sure your ball-point pen doesn't have a connection with BIC, a French firm.  You'd be surprised how many 'Detroit' cars are actually made in Canada.  Etc, etc.

Ok guys, now it is down to the BPS and the Benelli Nova Pump. I was looking at them and they are the best looking gun i have ever seen with a synthetic stock. I dont want a semi-auto Spot Shooter, because i have a feeling i would just empty the gun so many times without aiming well because i would have too much fire power.
