First, FN is not French, it is Belgian. Now that that is out of the way, I was looking around FN's website and founds some pretty interesting stuff. I learned about the 5.7x28 ammo. I already knew it was chambered in the Five-seveN, but i didnt know that it was also in the P90. Next time i play Counter-Strike, i will use this setup. But anyways, I learned that FN still makes the High Power. How are these things priced? I also looked at the m249 SAW PARA. LOL. That thing looks funny! O wait, that has nothing to do with handguns! OOPS.

NH--

Yes, the Hi-Power is still available from Browning Arms in this country, although I don't know if FN is its manufacturer or not. It is available in 9mm and 40 S&W, and I think Bar-Sto barrels might make an aftermarket barrel for the 40 S&W variant in 357 SIG.

I wish the 1911A1 and the Browning Hi-Power were authorized by my agency, because those two pistols would be my choices as service arms--the 1911A1 in 45 ACP for uniform use, and the HP in 40 S&W for all else.

NH;

The last I knew, and this could have changed, the parts for the Hi-Power were made in Belgium & were shipped to & assembled in Portugul.  But my information's more than a year old.  For all I know the parts may be made in Zaire & assembled in the Gobi desert by White Russians.

I think the Belgian parts put together in Portugal is still current. I believe this came about due to cheaper labor and MFN trade status. FN makes the P-35/Hi-Power for Browning arms and also markets a military type version under the FN label as well. Last I heard, FN, Browning, and USRAC (Winchester guns) were all a part of a huge conglomerated weapons maker/defense contractor known as GIAT. Maybe French owned, maybe Belgian owned, I forget... Check out FN's pump riot shotgun. A 1300 Winchester with another name stamped on it!

I agree with Al. A Hi-Power would make a very slick off duty piece and still be a serious full size pistol. I'd stick with the 9mm and some 15 round Mec-Gar mags stuffed full of some JHP's that it liked though. Any problem on two legs that can't be solved with 15 rounds of 9mm can't be solved with a pistol anyway!AW
