I don't know how many of you hunt deer with slug's but I've done a load of it.  Anyway, I've tried these "Sabot's", and got some wierd results - now this is from multiple gun's (rifled slug barrels as manufact. suggests).

Makin a long story short - sabots cost three times as much and don't typically out perform good old winchester High velocity slugs.  I tried ALL of the brands last year before going to hunt with my dad in the southern tier of NY.  Shot them out my Super Black Eagle with a HK barrel on it so gun quality shouldn't have been an issue.  I only got one kind to group closer then the winchesters - Federal premium's.  However, in 10 rounds I had 2 fliers that were off nearly 5" at 100yds.  The winchesters grouped at 3" (all 10)  Hmmmmm....  Screw the propoganda - I killed two last year with the winchesters - one a neck shot at 40 yards and I hit within an inch of where I aimed.

I have tested Remington Copper solids in a rifled barrel and as far as I can see, they preform as advertised. I typically fire 3" groups with them. I don't believe that using rifled tubes is quite enough to get the right spin, but then again I have only tried that in three guns. The rifled barrels all seem OK to me.

On the other hand, the Brenneke "foster type" rifled slugs work well too. They just don't fly as flat.

What kind of gun did you try them in Spot? I have a supply of the copper solids and am going to shoot somemore of them to get some better notes. I will report what I found. By the way, I have two shotguns with factory rifled barrels, an 870 and an 1100........Kingpin

ok this is all i know: it was like trying to find out what shoots best out of your rifle.  i got a 835 mossburg with a rifled slug bdl with a 1x  red dot scope. i got  2 boxes each  of rem. , win. fed.. after getting it close on paper with the std. slugs i started with the sabots. shot 5 each at plane white paper at 50 yds.  that is almost all you are going to get here in michigan in the shotgun zone. unless we find a farmer that will let you hunt over a field. the best group was with the fed's. these were the primeum. not the barns. everybody i have talked to says to try the lightfields.  you can go to the local chain store and get the foster slugs for 1.99 a box. sabots are on sale near deer season for 5 bucks a box. but not the feds. but i have found then for 6.95 a box. the barns are 12. bucks.  remington has a new sabot out  the sledghammer. havent seen any yet. but might have to give them a try.  matthew got a hastings slub bdl with a 1.5x4 bushnell for his 870. it had a warning in it to watch out for a lot group of the copper  rem slugs. something about to much presure.  but so far his rem. likes the fed premeum's
