My two year old did more work than I wanted this year, but he did it all good, an' got outta some juvenile habits to boot.  He packed meat cause my rental mule took an unauthorized leave back to the trailhead the morning we wanted to pack out my bull.  This also caused more gear to be in camp when we packed out the camp, so loads were heavy, including Bo's.  I was able to keep him down to 100 lbs or so on the trip out.  He had some trouble stringin' up to the t-bred on the first day.  She had a fit a couple months ago an' kicked him up pretty good, but a short session in the meadow at camp seemed to cure that.  He now jus' follers behind 'thout playin' with the lead rope or wanderin' off the trail too much.  I might jus' git another mule yearling so's I got three pack animals next year.

Mule, You need to watch loading a 2 yr old  mule heavy or riding it hard  until it's three. Thier knees don't close up as fast as a horse, and you can cause some damage. Usually at two, I just put a pack saddle on them to carry lunches or a little bit of harware for skinning /quartering elk, maybe my saddlebags in the panniers. But thye learn a lot.

If God wanted you to walk and carry things on your back, He would not have invented stirrups and pack saddles
