I re-did the lift on my truck box yesterday. A few years ago i used 3 1/2 inch pipe to lift it and it worked great until i started packing a camper around the last couple of years and shook the damn thing loose so the box would rattle and move around when i drove. So i finally got under the box yesterday with a cutting torch and removed the rusty bolts. I also had to gas weld one of the brackets that ran across the belly as the spot welds on those had broke free. Needless to say i had no gas welding rods so i broke the flux of a few of my electrodes from my arc welder and used those. Thats the problem with trucks like my Toyota and others such as Mazda, Datsuns and Nissans. The boxes always rust like theres no tomorrow and along the seams. I replaced the pipe with hockey pucks and hopefully everything will hold in place. Are there any more suggestions someone can give me to reinforce the box? My camper is a 1974 Tristar import camper but back in those days the campers were heavier than they are now and i dont want to have to keep buying pucks every year. Gary |

If you can sue McDonalds for getting you fat then why can't you sue the alcohol companies for all the ugly people you ended up sleeping with?

Truck tires cut into 3IN. circles would hold up better I would think since they are designed to hold the weight of the intire truck. My truck body and cab sit on ruber mounts that have been there since 1978.

I just cut the backend of my ramcharger and will be putting a flat bed on it and welding the cab closed because the body is rusting away after 25 years.

I never thought about truck tires and i have a whole pile sitting in the yard. I was thinking about flat decking my truck but id only do that if there was a way to pull my camper along in a truck box trailer. Gary |

Gary, I couls give a few other ideas, but for the time being hockey
pucks are a good choice. Polyurethane is better, but more $$, This is
what actual lift blocks are made of. If you don't mind some noise and
viabration transmitted solid aluminum cylinders, or other metal, would
work great too.

Stupid people are like a slinky, they don't serve much purpose in the world but they sure are fun to watch tumble down the stairs! |
