Topic: I知 達out To Buy A Boat Posted: 22 July 2004 at 00:33
The little lady and I went and looked at a used boat Sunday, and drove around in it yesterday. I've grown up with a boat, but I've never owned one. This will be my first and it's a great starter boat. It's a 17' Monarch, welded mod V, 60 HP merc - stainless prop with 2 aluminums, 34 lbs thrust motor guide, 2 Eagle deapth finders (LCD), 2 brand new batteries with on-board charger, 2 aeriated live wells, full instrument cluster, bimini top, vinyl boat and motor cover, other extra features too, AND (get this) he's gonna through in his tree stand too!
Hey BEAR, I'm gonna have to call BEAR CUB and get him out on the water and show him how to worm fish with a Texas Rig.
Moose, with the aluminum boat and a 60hp you need a set of water skis. BEAR cub is an expert on h20 shiing, when he isn't jumping out of airplanes, or shooting my 9mm or his 41 mag or my 22 target auto.
Congratulations. Boating is lots of fun. And boat fishing ruins you for shore fishing except for flies. You have lots o learning ahead. I'd strongly suggest a "safe boating course". So much of what you will see boaters do is unsafe and foolish. Most people just don't know water safety and good boat handling (no license required). Just because it has a steering wheel doesn't make it like a car....Can you say NO BRAKES!!!
Be safe, have fun, take suntan lotion and polarized glasses. If you have hair like me (none) wear a hat. Walleyes love a half of a large nightcrawler, wind drifted about 4 inches of the bottom. tasty.

BEAR,
All good advice... even for me. I am a seasoned boating veteren, this is just the first boat that I have ever owned. I've spent 32 of my 35 years fishing out of boats, yet I still like to fish off of the bank too (because some ponds are located where no boat can get to, and those ponds usually have BIG fish). Sun screen will live on the boat along with polarized glasses (those are the only sunglasses I've ever used). A hat is a given.... a nice orange UT hat (that's the REAL UT - The University of TENNESSEE for all you Texas guys ).
As far as skis... I don't know about that. Too many fish in the water to be wasting time skiing.
Hey Mountaineer, insted of vinyl seats, what if I have red carpet ?
