Ok,

Lets see, 4K to buy the thing, then a trailer to haul it and some other stuff will easily put you at 5k.  They're only good for about a decade if that, so that's $200 a month.  (at the low side)

So we know the cost, what's the benifit in terms of actual use that you couldn't get down without it, or something else cheaper.  Compare it too hauling out game with a mag hauler, or payin' someone to do it with a pack critter.  I guess you could use it to "sneak" into some land and hunt (really now be reasonable)  So what's the benefit's - I can only see a few unless you can't 4x4 to where you hunt.  But that's why I'm try'n to be open minded and ask - Please do the same and answer.  Most guy's around here buy them as toy's.

If you spent 5k, financed it for 3 years at 6.9%, a common finance scenario, you'd be in for $5,547. So over ten years it's more like $46 for the intial cost of the machine. But it's not about cost effectiveness. Like you said most people buy them for toys, everywhere. Some people hunt a lot off them, that can be ok, and down right evil depending on the situation. I can tell you this, it's a hell of a lot cheaper to own a ATV then it is a horse over a span of ten years.

So how 'bout some Hoss owner's fess'n up how much holdin' down a hoss costs.

The pasture size is a bit bigger, and the quad's are easier to winter.

Got to agree with the ease of use goin' the wrong way with a quad.  An man they have screw'd up a few of my whitetail, and turkey hunt's.

It's always fun to watch the guy's eye's get wide when he comes rippin' around the lane on land he don't belong on, and see me holding a long arm standin' in the middle of the lane.  Sometimes the stop and look like "oh shit, do I go up there?"  other's the turn around and haul.  Sometimes they don't even look, and I've got to shoot into the dirt to get their attention.  Those are the ones I like best.  Big white eyes.

I payed $3500 for mine, use it quite a bit around the house and fields and hunt with it too. We ride them out to the edge of where we are going slow and quiet like, then park and walk in. Then go get it to haul them out. I use it for hualing wood and garbage and what not too. In the winter and summer I pull kids on a knee board, hell of a lot of fun. They can be destructive to land and people if you let them be. It is easier than going without it, and I could go without it, but I'm glad I have it. They are pretty easy on gas too if you don;t go with a 600cc or bigger.

I think a lot of people fear the 2 stroke quad runners flying around making a lot of noise, the newer 4 strokes are pretty quiet and still perform pretty good.

Stupid people are like a slinky, they don't serve much purpose in the world but they sure are fun to watch tumble down the stairs!

Hey rob,

Where can you get a 10 year loan on a quad runner?  Hell, even a dodge don't last 10 years, so unless toyota starts makin' 'em I don't think yer gonna get a 10 year loan.

I never bought one, so I guess that'd be 4 or 5 years on 3.5 to 6k.  That's a cash flow equiv. near a grand a year not countin' the trailer, winches, and other accessories.

Got to admit bikes is a whole lot of fun, I use to pull my brother around on my 3 wheeler honda around the barn's.  Never kilt him, but I sure tried the way he was fly'n around back there.  Did near kill myself once when a handle caught some pig  fence as I was goin around a corner too fast and the front end din't turn when I did.

HEY, we ought to add medical cost's on top of the pile.

Actually Spot, I was offered a 7 year loan. I beleive other companies offered a 8 year also. The pricey ones are eligible for up to 12 year loans, just the way recreational stuff is deal with, boats too. The interest rates are usually higher though, so it isn't always a good deal. A good bike will cost as much as a 4 wheeler, more fun but not as functional.

Medical, hmm............

 Spot

I never indicated a ten year loan. I clearly stated in my example a three year loan. I added the cost of the machine and intersted and then spread *that* over ten years to come up with the $46. I did that because in your post you said something about $200 dollors over ten years........  A ten year old machine is also no big deal. Of course if you beat the crap out of it and don't do maintance your milage will vary.

Kawasaki overs a three year loan at 4.6% or a five year at 6.9%. No penalty for early payoff on either. I don't believe in long term loans on any motorized vehicle. The above rates are better than most banks can/will offer.

I don't need a trailor, I have a truck. The winch was part of a promotional offer and I got a plow at cost.

As to vehicles not lasting ten years, a dodge, chevy or whatever, thats BS. Maybe in the big city they just get stolen before they're ten years old and thats what your thinking

last in line for the nobel peace prize. first in line for pie

Rob,

I'm not gettin' how much yer loan payments are out of that scribble ya just made.  I'm gonna guess around $178 a month, not good, not bad, just a number was all I was lookin' for.

But Toyota's and super duty fords both last 10 years if you know how to take care of them.

Bk,

Wow, an 8 year loan - yikes!

Pretty soon there's going to be a used Quad dealer in every town due to the cost of these thing's.
