Hey All - I'll be the first to admit, over the years my rifles have been topped with more B&L and Bushnell scopes than anything else. Up until last weekend I only had one Leupold, a compact 2-7 on my .308 Win Rem Model 7.

Got a bit of a deal on a excellent, used Leupold VariX-II 3-9x40mm this past Sunday. Decided to put it on a Remington 700 .308 that I have [ happens to be the first centerfire rifle I ever owned]. When I first got this rifle it had a Leupold M8 - 4x on it [that scope later went onto a Browning BLR, and the Rem got a variable]. The scope that I had on this Rem until mounting the Leupold variable was a new matte Bushnell 3200 3-9x40mm. Truthfully, I think the Bushnell is the brighter scope. Time & some field testing will tell, though.

I will continue to look for deals on used Leupolds, though. You can't go wrong with that lifetime warranty!

Mounts are Leupold with quick detach rings...funny though how the caps on the Leupold scopes go a funny plumb color......

Marcus.

NH - I think this is something that happens over time. Maybe only with the older ones. A number I have seen for sale used at gun shows have had the caps that were off color from the rest of the scope. Usually under flourescent lights kind of has a plumb color hue to them. You can see it on the cap in my picture above.

Marcus.

Marcus; Welcome to the club from ole Eagleye, too. I readily admit to being a Leupold "slut" myself.  Have them on everything I own now, except a 336A Marlin 30-30, which sports a 3x Weaver. Even my 541T has a 2-7 Leupie on it. As it stands, I have on my rifles: 2,6.5-20's; 3,3.5-10's; 1, 3-9; 3,2.5-8's; 9,6x36's; 1,6x42; 2, 2-7's; 1,4x; and 1,12X. The scope I regret not owning more of is the 6x42, it is a beautiful piece of optics. Regards, Eagleye.  Wow, has it been hot up here the last week or so!!!
Never argue with an idiot. They will drag you down to their level & then beat you with experience!

NL,

My cherry got popped yesterday (I bought my first one)!  I too have run bushnell scopes for years, my addiction included the dusk and dawn series.  I did manage to put a bushnell 4-16x 50mm elite 4200 on my 300WSM last fall before I bought my first Leupold.  I got a deal on a new gun & scope - picked up a new BLR '81 in 358 Win, and a VX-III 2.5 to 8x 36mm Leupold to top it off. I ordered some burris signature rings to mount it, when I get it mounted I'll post a picture.

I have 3 Leupolds 2 elite 3200s 1 burris FF2 and I nikkon monarch. I wan't to buy at least 2 new Leupolds.  I been posting about the Pre 64 featherweight 270 I just traded for. I put the 3x9 Elite3200 on it But It is only temporary. I Will get either a VX3  2.5X8 or a VX2 2x7. I have the 2X7 on my model 7 308 and it is really a good scope. I have 2 VX3s and the 4.5x14 is simply excelent. but I took the 308 and my .338 to the range last weekend And compared the 2x7 to the  X3 3.5X10 And the quality is really prety darn close. I also need a scope for my Ruger RL in .257 roberts.Thinking mabye a low power variable like the 1.75x6, but the 2x7 might be great there too.  My Other scopes are all good too but i,ll take a leupold over any of them both for Quality and to help keep jobs in america !

You mentioned the plum color on the caps.... the ranch hand on the ranch I used to hunt on in Texas had a Ruger .223.  He used it for shooting everything out there.... I mean EVERYTHING!  I don't know how long he had that gun.... I vaugly recall him saying 1977.  It had a Leupold 3x9 on it, AND THE WHOLE DERN THING WAS PLUM COLORED!  I thought it looked cool.
Y'all shoot straight!!!

North Logan - Welcome to the Luppy Club, I doubt you'll be disappointed.  I am no big fan of the Bushnells but the Elite Series I hear are great and don't break the bank when you buy them.

Spot - You too will like the Luppy's, I sure do

tj - sounds like you're building a truly classic hunting rig (270 + Leupold = game on the table).

I too shoot Leupolds, if you couldn't tell , but not exclusively.  I've got one 6.5 -20 X Vari-X III on my Remington 700 VLS 22-250 and a 1.5-5 X on my Ruger 77 in 257 Roberts (love that combo!).  I also used/have used Burris, Sightron, Weaver, Bushnell, Tasco and others.  I'd like to get a Weaver for my 7 STW that I'm working on but may try a Leupold VX II in something like a 4-12X
