Anybody using the target turret style mil-dot scopes from Tasco? Got my brand new mail order cataloque and see they are very reasonable priced. Thought one might be fun to get and put on my .223 Rem 7. I know this goes against my axiom of no honkin' big scopes on compact rifles, but I thought it might be a good combo........thoughts??

Regards, Marcus.

What is the price? the bushnell 3200 elite mil-dot may be close to the price and is a great compact scope i have 3 . BTW they are made in japan by either hakko or light works(donot remember which). As far as the tasco varmint scopes I have looked through them and shot them at the range on other peoples rifles and they seem fine, clear and good resolution ( i prefer my 10x40 3200 though, lifetime noBS warranty). I am not a brand guy but a quality guy. The tasco owners of this scope seem happy and the quality looked good.

north logan: my son has a tasco 6x24 target/ varmint on his savage 22-250. no problems and it has a lot of power for long distance. i think he gave 150 for it. but his has the dot on it.and it came with 2 sun shades.  nice scope. it has the target turrets. he leaves it the same for 100-200. then he knows how many click for out farther.

Jay - I did a price comparison... the Tasco 6-24x42mm mil-dot is 130 Canadian [about $100 US] and the Bushnell 3200 10x42mm mil-dot is $290 Canadian [about $220 US]. I agree that the Bushnell Elite's are the way to go, as I already have a few of them on other rifles...

Mr. Mom - The experience of people locally using the Tasco's around here is favourable, too. For the price I might just order one and try it out on the little .223

Regards, Marcus.

Wish we could get the same kinda discount on scopes up here. The above price I quoted was probably the best in Canada via mail-order from Wholesale Sports in Calgary, Alberta. If I could get 3200's that cheap all the rifles would wear one!

Regards, Marcus.

Rob - I've thought of that one, too. Only trouble is once it lands here our Federal Customs apply their $$ duties plus the Federal 7% Goods & Services Tax [GST] and we're pretty much back to square one again...

General mail, in envelopes, gets thru easy. On parcels there has to be a sticker attached declaring the contents. If it's new merchandise being shipped up it is subject to duties & taxes. Yes, sometimes, and especially since 9/11, parcels get opened. The best way to get stuff home from the USA is to buy it when travelling and then carry it across.

Sometimes a private customs broker, who has a contract with the govt, will take charge of it then also charge a brokerage fee. I ordered a package of 1911 barrel links from Wilson's gunshop in the USA once and by the time I got them in my hand they cost me double. I had bought them over the phone, put on my Visa and also prepaid the shipping. They got stopped at the border, redirected to a private broker, then once cleared came to me, COD for the duties, taxes, broker's fee and shipping from the brokerage house to mine. [That is after I had already prepaid the shipping from Wilson's to me!].

My wife recently ordered a book out of the USA. It came in the mail, with a note that it had been processed by a private broker. They also sent a bill for another $15 for the broker's fee.

Such is life in a federal liberal dictatorship!

Regards, Marcus.

Now there's a thought... get a mail drop across the pond in Port Angeles, WA go over for the day as a foot passenger on the ferry and walk back over loaded down with scopes & such!

Seriously, I am lucky enough to get at least one trip a year down to the USA, so I save up and do a little shoppin' when I'm there... better too if there happens to be a gunshow near where I'm at to. You Amercian's do know how to put on a right fine gunshow!

Marcus.

So what if someone buys it, ships it and labels it used or partially defective with a false sales slip for $30 plus shipping or something? Maybe fraud, but could they find out? Just change the packaging.

I'm sure that kinda thing is done quite often to foil our federal authorities who keep the country safe from new scopes and collect the $$ duties & taxes for the govt to waste. It's just that it's certainly not worth it to me or my livelihood to participate in it...
