WBC praises american deaths-help needed

i'm sure you've all heard of these disgusting animals at the westboro baptist church. i won't dignify them by spreading their hate-filled message here; you can google them if you want to. all i will say is that their rhetoric is repulsive to any decent human being, whether you are pro- or anti-bush, america or war in iraq.

to give an example, one of their mottos is "thank god for IEDs," and their big claim is that "God is killing American troops in strange lands for fag sins." they make even fundamentalists (christian, muslim or otherwise) look sane and peaceful. they are proof that the destruction of this country can come from the right just as easily as from the left.

evidently, these false christians plan to travel to li'l ol' chinook, montana, to picket the funeral of the young marine killed in iraq last week and to try to get attention and spread their venom. as a friend of the family of this young man who was killed, but also as someone who thinks that this is a terrible violation, my blood is boiling at the thought of their desecration.

along with denying them any of the attention that they are so desperate to get, are there any effective, LEGAL ways of dealing with these assholes? i realize that, unfortunately, shooting them is out of the question. what can be done to lessen their negative impact on an already tragic situation, and is it possible to keep them at least at arm's length, if not entirely away from this funeral?

and don't start on me about their constitutional rights and advocating a police state. these nutcases are far, far beyond those who are against the war. they don't give a damn about the war. what they want is dead soldiers. read up on them. they are not AGAINST the war, they are FOR American blood and death. the anti-bush, anti war crowd would never think of such disgusting rhetoric such as this.

i recognize their right to say whatever they want, to assemble, etc; however, the friends, family and community of this young Marine also have the right to mourn and pay respect to his sacrifice in relative privacy. not only is there some decency involved here, but there is the mother of a US Marine who was killed defending the lives and freedom of those who could not defend themselves. should she be subjected to this? i can't imagine that anyone would say that she should.

It's my understanding that they attempted to make their presence known at the funeral of Senator Baucus's nephew here in Montana.  That young man died in our nation's service in the middle east. They were prevented from doing so.

following Huntin1's suggestion, i contacted the Patriot Guard. these guys are outSTANDing and were already on the case and are taking action. i can't thank them enough.

This is not a left/right, conservative/liberal, bush/anti-bush/ war/anti-war issue. this is about respect, dignity and honor. If this issue comes up in any town of yours, these guys walk the talk, and deserve high praise.

talk about all hat and no cattle, these guys arepretty lame; i must confess, though, i am glad that they are. not a single one of the pukes were in town today. for the record, the patriot guard WAS here. it was quite a thing to see such support from these folks and from the community.

there were all sorts of rumors floating around, dealing with permits (and lack thereof), phone calls to the WBC stating that their safety couldn't be guaranteed due to it being hunting season, stuff like that. of course, the truth is probably much more boring.

it's been suggested that these guys usually announce intention to picket a number of towns, but only make a handful of those they announce.  They monitor the internet and the papers to see what town puts up the biggest resistance, and then just go to the one place.  Remember they only want media attention, and they drive usually in a stretch van.  So they look for vocal resistance and a town close to their Kansas homes.The more the town mobilizes the better chance that they will come.  It is easy for them to hit a Google search on their name/initials and the threatened towns.  The one with the most hits will most likely be the victim of a visit.

not as exciting as death threats, but probably most likely. either way, it doesn't matter. they didn't show up, and the family was able to mourn in peace, and the boy was given the tribute that he deserved. the funeral was easily one of the most emotional moments that will be remembered by everyone who attended.
