So far, I have pretty good ears. I've always taken care of my hearing, and I always use good protection on the range. But i've been out hunting a little more year round, so i'm considering an 'in the feild' option.

I know about those 'bionic ear' type devices which cut out when the gun goes off - and that's not a bad choice. But they're very expensive and kinda bulky. I've HEARD of little devices which are like ear plugs - they just go in your ear and they don't interfere with normal volume sounds. But when a loud sound goes off they shut it out, protecting your hearing.

Have any of you guys ever tried this?

Hi foxer,I use ear plugs when I am walking and muffs when I am varmititing. The bionic plugs are good.Remington make them and I am sure many others in the US.Buy good  quality ones as the lesser brands will muffle all sound and I have seen some people push them in to far and affect their balance.Have a good one macca.
don't let the bastards grind you down.

Huh! and they work well for you? I'll have to look into that. I figure I still have good hearing - why screw with it?
