Hey guys, my dad was wondering if the Ruger P97 decock only can use .45 ACP +P loads. I told him to call the manufacturer and he said he was just going to try them out, so i am doing a compromise. The +P's are from Buffalo Bore Ammo.

NH;

Typically, it's the recoil spring that will determine if the gun can handle the round.  Wolf makes recoil springs in all different weights for 1911 pattern guns, don't know if they do for the Ruger's though.

In any case, load a mag of normal .45ACP & the other mag with a normal as first in the chamber, then a +P, normal, +P, etc.  Get the feel of the normal pressure rounds first, Winchester white box USA, would be a good choice.  If on the +P rounds, it feels as though the slide bangs to a stop, or hits something, don't use the +P's anymore, you'll batter the gun to rebuild city.  Something as simple as a 1lb higher weight spring may fix it, but get that from a good pistolsmith also before you do it.
