Hello everyone, I just moved from alaska to montana and was shootin the breeze with a fellow while at work about fishing in montana especially about fishing for walleye and he mentioned this site. Would love to hear and learn about fishing montana and if any of you guys are planning to fish alaskas interior or the northern slopes of alaska and have any questions feel free to drop me a line or shall we say cast me a line anytime.

Welcome to MT, and the Baitshop. As Bear asked what part of the state are you in. I'm in Great Falls, and so are a few other members. Couple of them are fishing nuts. I like fishing for trout, but hate to eat em. So I have stopped most of my fishing. There are guys here that will help you out a ton I'm sure. MM |

Thanks for taking the time to chat and for letting me know about the site. I ama fishing junkie and love it whether the fish are biting or not, like they say" a bad day of fishing is better then a good day at work" Perhaps sometime we could meet up and go do a lil fishing. I'm very new here and my ol lady works alot and I dont know anybody who is into fishing. Hey Bear whats the fishing like in Pennsylvania? Thanks for the welcoming

Well, if you try to compare Pennsylvania trout fishing with Montana, then I have to say that Pa is tough. We have lots of great streams loaded with trout. But the streams are small and there is more fishing presure here than out west. I fished about 8 different Montana streams in September of last year. Lots of big open water with trout pretty well dispursed through out. We have some classic trout streams like the Letort, Yellow Breeches, Spring creek, and others. If you are passing through, I'd be glad to show you some. If you are a fly fisherman, then you sort of need to "adjust' you casting techniques for shorter, "quieter" casts. We have good walley, large mouth, smallie, and muskie fishing. I'm just getting ready for the spring crappie fishing. But I've got 2 more weeks of trapping beaver before the fishing thing will start for me. BEAR BEAR |

Grizz I get to Havre several times a year on the Putt. (HD) will try to hook up this spring or summer. Grab a cup of joe, or fish a little. I work in Fort Benton at the Chevy shop. If your ever passing through Monday through Friday. Stop in and ask for Scooter. That would be me! Glad to have you here in MT and on the board. MM |

Pennsylvania sounds like a fishermans dream. Aweome variety. I may take you up on that offer if I'm ever in the pens. area. Hey Rick what part of N.Florida are you from. I was born and raised in Tallahassee and have quite a large family there and throughout georgia. Love to go redfishing and seatrout. If youre ever in Woodville (just south of tallahassee stop into Jerrys bait and tackle and say hi to Scott for me. Tell him alaska mark sent you...lol. Tasunka I totally look forward to hearing back from you and learning about fishing the area and perhaps learning how to smoke some trout if you would be willing to showme some recipes. Awesome Scooter would like to get to Fort benton to get some pictures. I remember passing it on the way from GF and thought would a cool looking town and what better reason then to meet a new friend

Wow grizz, what a small world, I live in Crawfordville, used to live in Woodville, work for the State in Tallahassee, I fish out of St. Marks, Aucilla, or the Econfina, I will stop in at Jerry's and pass the message along and tell them they can find you here. Boats ready and the trout and reds are starting.
