My beloved GMC envoy has cancer. Holes in frame are 3" diameter and some 3x4". frame welds are falling off.
The body looks perfect except for a small dent where a doe ran into me. I really like that car. Can not get an inspection sticker and no one wants try to weld her up. must be off highway by 30th. Being German, I tend to be ultra Thrifty. With much pain I bought a new Ford Explorer. Lots of high tech stuff I don't like, and no frame. All for a sinfully expense! But I did save money by rebuilding a toilet flush valve yesterday... so I saved $20 and spent 35k. my wife tries to cheer me up saying "look at it this way it could be worse, you don't have cancer that we know of". |

Isn't it nice to know that YOUR tax dollars went to buy salt to put on the roads so your car could rust out? Around here, they used a finely crushed gravel since the beginning of cars on streets and intersections. The gravel came from pits allready owned by the city and state, so the material was free except for the cost of going and getting it. It worked great. A few years ago the rocket scientists that run our city's government decided it was a good idea to spend more of our tax dollars to buy a liquid salt solution to put on the streets to melt ice and snow. Now, our vehicles are rusting out too. Anyway, Congratulations on the new Ranger. It's always fun to get a new vehicle. Wing master |

cross-over vehicles are cars with bodies made to look like SUVs. Every year the auto industry takes an does a survey asking people what they want. using functional terms ... like how many doors, how tall, how much gas , etc. For the last 15 years people define they want a station wagon vehicle...but cars called station wagon or mini-van have a bad selling because of all the negative feminist TV. so they now call them cross-overs not station wagons.
I'll love a '55 Ford station wagon with the wood framed doors...in blue, 6 cycl in line with OH valves and a 2 barrel. |

BEAR; I believe the whole point of the cross-over is that it's a station wagon with the ability to go 4WD. Something you didn't commonly see on the '55 Ford. But, it's coming to this household too. Mama 900F is going to put the faithful old mini-van out to pasture one of these months pretty soon now & go shopping. I expect to see just that type of vehicle come back with her. 900F |

BEAR; I understand, the daughter has a Yukon. It's a nice vehicle, but the mileage is not the best. What didn't you like about the GM Acadia? Did you limit yourself to American units only, therefore no Rav4, CRV, Rogue, etc? 900F |

Yes...American only.
The explorer was slightly bigger with more towing capacity. I like Ford better than the union and government controlled GMC. CMC/Chevy didn't make the buying process easy. As a result of the government restructure. GMC is forbidden to give out model booklets to dealers...government control!!!! Ford gave me a well written booklet with all the spec (fuel, interior room, towing capacity, gas tank, etc. At GMC/Chevy I had to ask the questions ad write down the answers. Some times I felt the sale rep was making up the answers as they don't have a book to look into. I drove them all, liked the Ford Flex the best but it didn't have 4WD, only all wheel drive....but it was the most comfortable and roomy. |

How odd that I missed this. Just got my wittle Ranger back after having a new set of frame rails welded in from the cab back. New crossmembers, bed brackets, and sheet metal for the underside of the bed for a grand.I can get you a complete frame for your envoy if you still have it for a couple hundred bucks if you are interested? Johny-U-Pull across from Muellers auto salvage in "toon" town. Make for a nice winter project after the hunting is done and the fishing hasn't begun.
Still a Jeep guy myself, wife is now too. She has the Compass wannabe but it's still 4 wheel drive and 26 highway. The verdict isn't in on that variable speed trainy yet though....time will tell the tale. |

My wifes last car was a Chevrolet Tahoe. It was the shorter model. it had 4 wheel drive. I don't remember the average gas milage, but on the highway it would get 19 miles per gallon. And thats with me driving like a wild man. Thats like between 80 and 85 miles per hour. Thats probably not the best milage, but it's pretty good compared to my pickup. A 1987 3/4 ton Chevrolet that my grandaughter lovingly refers to as ol' Rusty. It gets about ten miles per gallon on a good day. The Tahoe was pretty comfortable and had a tow package. I only towed something with it one time, but it did good. Wing master |
