Well, not much of a story here.

Went out Saturday with sights set on something a little bigger than the jake that I had shot the last time.  Weather was overcast that morning and I again headed towards a ridge that typically has several birds on it during the spring season.  No gobbling was to be heard that morning at all.  Nearly 3 hours after daylight, I had done little more than a few yelps on the box call.

Finally, I heard a gobbler sound off in the valley below me.  He sounded off once more and then silence.  About 30 minutes later, he showed up on the logging road by himself and at 25 yards, I leveled the crosshairs of the Leupold 1-4X on the center of the tom's neck.  Seeing that he was a good mature bird, I squeezed the shot.  Bang flop and not another flinch.  Not a tremendous turkey but had a 10 1/2 inch beard, 1 inch spurs and weighed 22 lbs.

That punched the 2nd tag for me for the season and thus closed it for me.  Now I've got nearly four months before any other critters fit for consumption enter season!

Mountaineer, Congrats on a nice looking bird. I've been told that those silent birds may be satellite Toms sneaking in to see if the dominant bird is there to kick their behind, or if they can seal the deal before he gets there. RD
