What can anyone tell me about the CZ 452 Left hand bolt?

What experiances with this product?

What retail price range could I expect to find?

Any thing else you want to toss it on this subject.

thanks

Irish;

May I take it that you're shooting from the left shoulder?  I have one, & have had it for a coupla years now.  It's my primary gopher gun at this time.  Note:  Montana gophers are not the same as the cute little stripey buggers you got back in Wisconsin.  Our gophers are actually ground squirrels, look like a P-dog, just 1/2 the size.

In any case, it wears a Nikon Monarch 3.3-10X A/O mil-dot scope in Talley rings.  It's a 100 yard gopher-getter, if I do my part.   The rifle feels like it should be a pre-64 Winchester with the sole exception of the bent sheet metal trigger guard.  There is at least one source for aftermarket trigger guards if you want one.  It's a solid rifle, doesn't feel like a kid's .22, if you get what I mean.

Extra magazines are expensive.  A replacement 5-round steel will run about $25.00 & the plastic 10 round units are about $30.00.

You can check Gun Broker or GunsAmerica for current internet pricing & compare that to your nearest shop that carry's them.  I think something around $350.00 is the going rate though.

As with any .22, you have to do the ammo testing, even with the CZ's.  Once you find what it wants to shoot, watch out, you'll get addicted to shooting it!   Again, as with any .22, what mine likes doesn't mean squat to what your's may like, even if your's is the very next S/N to mine.

I'd strongly suggest getting one before somebody decides to ban the importation of firearms.  Once you find what it likes to shoot, buy two cases of whatever it is.

The CZ is definitely on my wants list. They look like sweet rifles. I wish more manufacturers would come out with lefty .22's. They really are great for off-season practice.

What happened to you CB? You have turned into the Mil-Dot Monkey around here!

Hey CB,

Thanks for the info regarding the CZ452. I just found this site the other nite and ran through some of the posts to get familiar with the crew.  U have a lot of posts!

I do shoot from the left shoulder. The only LH bolt guns I have now are 3 Savage 110's the newest being born in 1972 and a Browning A-Bolt circa 1983.  Most of my shotguns are SXS but a couple of O/U's snuck in there at some point.  One LH 870, the rest pumps are RH but we get along OK, they either have hammers aka M97 or tang safeties.  Some semi-auto types in .22LR and an AR15 type.  Lever guns and single shots ie Ruger #1, 1885 BPCR, Trapdoor etc make up the rest of the pack.  Most of the levers are for CAS.

However, I do not have a LH bolt .22LR and that is now a quest.  I was unaware CZ even made a LH rifle so it was a pleasant surprise to find that out.  The cost for me around here is in the $350 range plus tax & shipping.  Seems to be reasonable, now to see if they can deliver.

On the other end of the spectrum there are the Savage LHB .22LR and .17 HMR guns out there that seem to get OK reviews especially for their price range which in some cases goes from about 1/2 to nearly that of the CZ line.

My interest would be in the CZ American.  Also, I would be interested in finding out who has a replacement for the trigger guard.  Any idea at what cost for that item?

For the glass it seems as if a special rimfire scope is not necessarily needed.  I'm not sure where I'll go with that project.  We don't have lots of long range stuff around here, too many trees.

thanks

IBD;

I had a Savage LHB .22, the MKII.  The CZ is a much more solid, substantial, gun.  The Savage was OK for what it was, but the overall quality level of the CZ is several rungs up the ladder.  There are now a couple of choices in LHB .22's.  There's the American, which is what I have, and also the Lux.  The Lux has the traditional European hogback stock and the excellent CZ iron sights.  I want them to import the FS, full stock.  If they do, I'll own one ASAP.

If you don't get a rimfire scope, then get one with A/O, otherwise you're subject to parallax errors.  I have & can suggest the Sightron 3-9X S1 rimfire though.  Seems to me I've seen it lately for right around $120.00 shipped.  Check Midway, Bear Basin, SWFA, etc., you know, the usual suspects in mail order glass.

CZ also is now importing the 527 in LHB in .223.  I have one & am in the process of load development for it at this time, so can't yet comment on the accuracy.  But it'll be my walking varminter.

I've got a full battery of left handed guns, none of them Savages now since I sold the .22.  Currently I'm having a left hand 6.5 X 55mm Swedish Mauser built on a Tikka T3 action.

Welcome to the site Irish, always good to see more lefties around here! I think I also have one of those Savage .22s laying around here someplace. Took it apart years ago and was free floating the barrel and such, then leaned it in the corner, and can't find the 2 action screws. DOH!

As far as a steel CZ-452 trigger guard goes, I found some here:
http://www.rdcustomproducts.com/

I have come to the conclusion that having right handed firearms is counter-productive to my collection, so other than 3.5 (lefty safety on my AR, but righty ejection), all my guns are lefties. I have a 3 lefty centerfire rifles, 2 lefty 870's, an ambi over/under, single shot (Ruger #3), and a couple Marlin lever guns. I am in the process of getting rid of a couple righty guns I have, but I am keeping the 10/22 around. It seems manufacturers are coming out with more and more lefty options every year! I love it!

NH;

Go to:  www.gunparts.com aka Numrich, I'll bet they have the hardware you need.  And at a decent price too.

All,  Thanks for the welcome to the site.  Hope to visit here more often now that I found it.

Working on finding a CZ 452 American LHB.....most probably stock the RHB.  Seems as if the price has gone up since last Dec when I checked last..at least on the RBH models listed....could it be our declining economy?????  Going to see about trying to order one up next week and see what I find out.

Thanks for the tip on the A/O for other then rimfire scope, I do have an ancient Weaver K8 w/AO I could try as a starter.  Will look into the Sighttron S1 mentioned also as well as some of the other rimfire specialty scopes.  Any one have any comments on the BSA Sweet .22 line of rimfire scopes????

I too have an ambi safety on my AR as well as several 1911's and also on my 10-22.  I am partial to the thumb safeties on long guns which Savage and Browning have, alas Ruger dropped theirs and uses side type like M70 I think.  My Dbl bbl's and o/u's have them as well as some pump shotguns as does my Ruger #1.  Of course my lever guns have a "thumb" safety too......the hammer.  Just as a FYI......Charter Arms now markets a Left Hand Revolver.

Have any of you bought an aftermarket trigger guard?  What is the cost? Is it worth it or can one get by with the "ugly" one on the gun?

FYI, again........I have a good friend who lives in Missoula and have been elk hunting in Wisdom area....Big Hole river etc.

Today I ordered a CZ 452 American LHB .22LR ($386.50) along with S1 3x9x32RF & Millet rings.  Damn, I did forget tho to order extra mags.......it just hit me now as I write this........but I did order Brownells M-16 30rd mags to send to my son who is on his way to Iraq (3rd tour) in early May.  Will have to get on the extra mags for the CZ......they are a bit spendy....$26 for 5 rd and $24 for 10 rd......now to check out the after market trigger guards.......

IBD;

Glad you passed on the BSA scopes.  I used one that a friend had on a package gun he'd bought.  He wanted my help sighting it in.  Frankly, I thought I could have gotten a better image through the bottom of a coke bottle.  I have never seen such a radial flare pattern in all my life!  I admit, it was a package gun scope, but J. Jumpin' Keerist on a pogo stick, that thing never shoulda left anybody's factory at any price level.  I'd be deeply ashamed if my name were on that kind of product.

In any case.  Congratulations on the new .22!  I'm sure you'll love it.  Just my suggestions, but here they are.  Go with 1.25" sling swivels & then treat yourself to a Turner national match type military sling.  Fine leather, excellent workmanship, and a true joy to use with a field gun.

Do the requisite ammo testing & find what it wants to shoot, you'll have a 100 yard gun if you do your part.  If those Millet rings don't fit right, do give Talley a try.  They're not the least expensive, but those folks will make it right.

Today my new CZ 452 LBH .22 LR arrived by UPS.  NOt fancy but nice, clean lines and feels good 'cept fer the safety.......push for Safe and Pull to shoot????  Well it do look doable and I'm stuck with it anyhow.  Trigger guard ain't near as bad as I 'spected and I kin live with that cuz the machined one is in the $95 range and out of my range.  Mounted the S1 3-9X32 Sightron today in the Millet rings,  seems to be OK and got it bore sighted.  Try to shoot Fri IF it gets warmer and less windy around here......12degrees tonight so far.

It says it can be dry fired so I tried the trigger and it isn't too bad as is but it is adjustable per the book.  SO, we'll see how it acts on the range before trying to change it.  Slipped a Brownell's Latigo adjustable shooting sling on the supplied studs.....looks good.  Borrowed the sling off of another rifle I have.

IBD;

If you follow the link MRM gave you above, you'll wind up at the Rimfire Central site.  There is a very active CZ forum on that site that has a ton of information on your new .22.  If your trigger needs help, search for Brooks Trigger Kit over there & you'll find a cure that's both cheap and effective from all reports.

Yeah, it's too cold to go gopher shootin' here, and that's a bummer!  Cold & possible snow through the weekend, bah!  Humbug!!

CB.....

thanks fer the tips/info on the CZ stuff......still to cold to shoot comfortable around here......I must be getting to be a fair weather guy.  Did put 5 rds down the tube out the upstairs patio doors into the corn field.....hit some empty cobs offhand but that's no accuracy test......just let me pull the trigger on live rds......it feels nice, kinda like a big rifle and not a kids toy.....like the Win 69A which now resides in my son's gun rack....
