according to the montana FWP, birds are doing quite well here compared to the last few yeaars, except for sharp-tailed grouse, IIRC.....

i think that if we have a couple of good years, they area will again be quite the destination for bird hunters!

We dont have many birds in Wyoming. The Game and fish releases Pheasants in several places in the state. I would like to go up to Montana or North Dakota to bird hunt. That is where a pointing dog would shine.

I have always considered myself to be quite the bullshitter, But ocasionally it is nice to sit back and listen to a true professional......So, Carry on.

Pheasant numbers are really up in southern Minnesota. Really up!  According to "Pheasants Forever" releasing pheasants doesn't work period!  Habitat is the key! Like the "Field of Dreams" "Build it & they will come". "Pheasants Forever" is a good organization to belong to!

Ruffled grouse numbers here in northern Minnesota are still on the down side. 21 is the number I have shot so far. Too many leaves on trees yet. Not much time for a shot & I have gut shot a lot of trees. My tree'er retriever works good. Gets on a grouse & when it lands in a tree, he sits below & barks.  Sounds easy but only works about 20% of the time. He has taken me into cedar swamps & that hasn't worked out yet!! But if he barks, I have to play it out!
