Am I the only one still loading shot shells? I was at Sportsmans Wherehouse a few weeks ago and lead shot was $50.00 a bag.

So, Today I get all my loading stuff out. I dont load shot shells very often. and start loading. While doing this alot of thoughts go through my mind. I am thinking at $50.00 for 25 pounds thats two dollars a pound. At 1 oz per shell thats 12.5 cents. Thats $3.12 a box.

That in itself wouldn't have hurt my feelings too much but, I use 1 1/8 oz of shot. That dosn't count powder, primers and wads.

Next time I am at Wally World I will check prices on ready made shells.

Am I missing something here?

Is anyone in the market for a slightly used shot shell loader? Maybe I can figure out a way to load .223 shells with it. the price on them has doubled from what it was a couple years ago.

Ok, I am done complaining now.

Wingmaster, The shells you'll get at Walmart or any other promo shells will be no where near the quality of what you'll load. You need to compare your prices to Nitro STS or Win AA shells. Or try to buy 2 3/4 12 guage magnum upland loads for less than $10.00-12.00 a box. Even with the high prices I can load them for about 1/2 of that. I can't even buy 2.5" 16 guage 1 1/8 oz Turkey loads in #5 shot so I make them. IMO Those promo loads with the shot wrappers instead of cups etc. are OK for general screwing around but good ammo is good ammo. Doesn't matter if it's rifle ammo for an out of area big game hunt or shotgun ammo for a sporting clays shoot. The higher priced ammo is worth the cost. Confidence in your gun and it's ability in either instance takes one more thing off your mind and helps concentration on the shot. Not trying to get on soapbox here but I think reloading is a benefit that justifies the cost. BTW shot has dropped about $5 bucks a bag in some stores here. It's not moving at all so manufacturers are cutting prices. RD
