My boy , brother in law and myself took the boat and headed north to the reservoir to look for pressured deer in the Big brakes along the water. On the way up the lake in the very early moments before sun up we saw thousands of Canada geese heading out to feed. Like any good deer hunter we all had our waterfowl shotguns and ammo in the boat too. We went up as far as our mud boat could claw. On the way we had to push through a inch of ice and push off a few high spots, bur we made it to the end. We hid the boat under a small cut bank and found some cover along the expected return flight path. Then we waited, wishing we had a few goose decoys. Like an alarm clock at 10:30 the first started to arrive. Wave after wave 90% of them swung by just past our range but some didn't...
I wish I would have taken my gun in and cleaned it after our last hunt, Dang thing was quite dirty and would only shoot the first shell and not cycle the next. BUT we did get a few.

and some ducks just to round things out.
We did see some deer hunting back, one I wish would have stayed for a second more. We can shoot from a boat but the motor has to be off and all forward monition stopped. I just could not get a lock on it's shoulder, There is a very short distance that is public land then it turns in to private so IT HAS TO DROP where it stood. So with my new 358 at 65 yards I did not pull the trigger, just to iffy. A giant 5X6 Mule deer walked out of my sight. DANG.
Confused
Today I'm making Goose jerky.

It's cool that you made a successful hunt out of a hunt that didn't turn out the way you planned.
I have always considered myself to be quite the bullshitter, But ocasionally it is nice to sit back and listen to a true professional......So, Carry on.
