We all got swan tags this year, it opened the 7th.
It has been warm and few swans have come down. The Trumpeters come down first generally Then the tundra's, we can shoot either. Often its just chance they fly over us. When there is a good amount around we will put the boat out with the blind, we have used white balloons as decoys, the work well in the water. This year our main swan lakes are very dry so there is 100's of yards of mud around the water. So we are planning on hunting from the ground. Balloons on the ground don't look anything like swan to me. We are going to try DIY windsock swan decoys. Here is the first prototype. I'm using Tyvek for the body, it's very light and moves a lot in the wind. Then 2 inch PVC about 30" tall and a 10" piece cut like a bill kind of. I painted the bill black. I just pounded a wood dowl in to the ground to hold it up It too will move. I think I need to make the body larger. ![]() ![]() |
