You all know of my junkyard 6mm rem Mauser.
I get 3600 fps with a 80 grain Barnes and 4200 fps with a vrmageddon 55 gr out of my 26" barrel. I love the gun I hate the weight, close to 12 pounds. I want to rebarrel and rechamber one day. I'm thinking like a thinner 24" and a 6mm/06 AI. Do you think I could match the speed with the same bullets? I know it would take more powder. We are finding with RL 26 we are picking up close to 100 fps with the same charge. With the '06 case I could add 4 or 5 gr more powder than I'm using now. The pressers seam to stay about the same and I think less recoil. There is little to no load info for a 6/06 and even less for 26 powder. Wouldn't it be cool to send a bullet close to 4500 fps???!!! |

You might consider the 25-06, if you want to shoot 80gr. lpys of data, ever factory ammo.
I don't like to see high pressures in older military actions.

It's really not an old military action. It is a Mauser 98, but its a Herters j6 so it could be built post ww2.

That's really fast. What would the barrel life be? That would be my main concern.
I have found the same thing with Reloader 26. I got my Swede up to just over 3100 fps when lifting the bolt handle got a little stiff. The problem is that theirs no data available for Re-26 in 6.5X55. I had to start with data from Quick Load.
