Many of you will remember the Herter's Company, lots of low end products in the 50-60s.
I've been making some extra large spinner baits for muskies and large pike. Thought occurred to me to look for hints in my copy of: "Professional Fly Tying and Spinning Lure Making Manual" by George and Jacques Herters 1960 As i thought it was no help, BUT as always I got caught up in the fantastic Herter's writing style. Spent an hour learning nothing, but laughing my head off..

They were like Cabelas used to be.
My junkyard 6mm rem is a Herters knock off of a Mauser 98 action. They were before my time buying gear.

According to the catalog their products were top shelf. The best ever made. And their fishing lures caught more fish than you could ever imagine.
George Leonard Herters had a long line of BS. But like you said he was funny as all get out.

HERTER'S MODEL PERFECT....WAS IN THE DESCRIPTION OF ALL THE PRODUCTS! It was a Great Catalog especially for those of us in the rural area of the state with no big sporting goods stores in the immediate area. We could pur-use the catalog, dream BIG and then order whatever our meager funds would allow. It was my main reloading components source for a long time even before Gander Mountain or Cabelas or others. They were located in Waseca, MN below the twin cities somewhat. In those days one could even order the firearms directly from them and have a semi-custom rifle made to order. They even did nice stock work. I still have & use some of their products in my reloading room. They sold shotshell wads too & I used the Herter's branded "Chalice" wads for my early days of trap shooting....done with no less than an ancient Winchester M-97 12ga full choke, 30" bbl. Those were great times about 4+ decades ago. I still have a few of their original catalogs in my library.
